Field Hockey Defeats Temple, 3-2

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Sept. 23) - Senior midfielder Caitlin McLean (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) scored Georgetown's game-winning goal as the Hoyas defeated the Owls, 3-2. At 7-0, Georgetown's field hockey team is off to one of its best starts ever.

The Hoyas' first two goals were almost identical. At 42:17, and less than two minutes later, at 44:09, Georgetown was able to convert on penalty corners. Both goals were scored by freshman back Elena Elster (Wiesbaden, Germany/Lawrenceville School) and assisted by senior midfielder Sarah Oglesby (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) and junior midfielder Aubrey Bruggeman (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair). Elster leads the team in scoring with 16 points on seven goals and two assists, while Bruggeman is second with 12 points on two goals and eight assists. Oglesby currently has five points on five assists.

At 48:22 Temple cut the lead to one as Juliann Leskiw scored off an assist from Jessica Jaworski. However, at 50:19, the Hoyas were able to put the game away when McLean netted her fourth goal of the season. McLean is now third on the team in scoring with nine points.

The Owls were able to score once more as Kacy Ziomek connected on a penalty corner from Jaworski and Haley Dervinis at 63:10.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Herring (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) had nine saves and earned her seventh win in a game where the Hoyas never trailed. In a losing effort for the Owls, Serene McGrath had eight saves and April Herman had three saves.

Georgetown's field hockey team will be in action again as they travel to Richmond to take on Virginia Commonwealth on Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. The Hoyas' next home game is against Stanford on Oct. 4, at 4 p.m.
