Washington, D.C. ?Elena Elster (Wiesbaden, Germany/Lawrenceville School) scored the game-winning goal as the Hoyas overtook the University of Rhode Island 3-2 today. The Hoyas improve to 10-4 on the season, while the Rams fall to 5-12.
The Hoyas got on the board first when Shelby Samperton (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Visitation) passed the ball to Elster who tapped in her 11th goal of the season at 22:29.
The Rams scored two quick goals early in the second half, making the score 2-1. Marcie Bourski collected the ball at the top of the circle and blasted in the first goal at 30:23. Just minutes later, Jess Weber scored unassisted at 24:17.
Senior Aubrey Bruggeman (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair) tied the game for the Hoyas at 2-2 when she scored off of a penalty stroke at 13:00.
Elster scored the game-winner at 10:03 after receiving a pass from freshman defender Meghan Leahy (Windham, N.H./St. Paul?s School).
Georgetown goaltender Jessica Herring (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) posted six saves on the day.
GU wraps up their 2001 season on Wednesday, October 31st when they travel to the University of Richmond at 3 p.m.
