BETHESDA, Md. ? Georgetown, carting out seven different pitchers to the mound, couldn?t find the answer as the Hokies set single-game school and BIG EAST marks for hits (37), runs batted in (35), at bats (65), and total bases (68). The 35-4 loss dropped the Hoyas to 8-38 on the season and 2-18 in the conference. Virginia Tech improved to 21-17 overall and 11-6 in the BIG EAST.
Led by third baseman Bill Quinn, who batted 2-for-4 including a homerun, two RBIs and a run scored, the Hoyas were able to muster four runs on 10 hits. Right fielder Robert O?Hare batted 1-for-4 with two RBIs, a run scored, and a homerun, his third of the series with the Hokies. Centerfielder Carlos Gazitua and designated hitter Mike Green each contributed a pair of hits while Tony Lee, Matt Carullo, and Travis McCourt each had a hit.
Brad Bauder, a junior from Ashburn, Va., who went 8-for-8 at the plate with four homeruns, two singles, a double and a triple, led Virginia Tech. He drove in 14 runs and scored seven. Bauder set new individual single-game school and BIG EAST records for hits, RBIs and total bases (23). Wyatt Toregas also broke a record with his performance setting a Tech and BIG EAST mark with nine at bats.
Georgetown?s next game is scheduled for Wednesday night, a double-header against Mount St. Mary?s beginning at 5:00 p.m. EST in Bethesda, MD.
