SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS ? Playing in the first Division I men?s lacrosse game in Texas in over 32 years, Georgetown University (3-0) defeated Hobart College (2-1) 13-5 on the campus of Texas Military Institute. Senior Jordan Vettoretti (Carmel, N.Y./Mahopac) set a career high in points with three goals and two assists to lead the Hoya charge.
The Hoyas held a slim 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter before ripping off five scores in the second period. Georgetown entered halftime up 7-2. In the third period both squads notched two goals apiece but the Hoyas made sure there would not be a fourth quarter comeback by hitting four in the final 15 minutes compared to the Statesmen?s one.
Georgetown?s scoring was spread out between nine different players. Mike Hammer (Fairfax, Va./Robinson) tallied two goals and had three assists. Juniors Mike Boynton (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) and Kevin Shooshan (Potomac, Md./Landon) combined for three goals and two assists, with each handing out an assist and Boynton netting two scores. Five other Hoyas recorded scores to complete GU?s scoring output.
The Hoyas meet local ECAC rival UMBC this Saturday, March 15 at 1 p.m. The game will be televised live by Baltimore?s WMAR Channel 2 from Baltimore, Md.
