9/11/2003

TOWSON, Md. - Toswon University junior Julie Lambi scored the go-ahead goal and had one assist as the Towson Tigers (3-1) beat Georgetown University (1-4) for the first time since 1996, winning by a 6-1 margin at Minnegan Field at JohnnyUnitas Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The victory enabled the Tigers to end a five-game losing streak, and avenge a 5-2 loss at Georgetown last season. The series is now even at 10-10-3. The defeat was Georgetown?s fourth in a row after a season-opening win over Longwood.

Lambi?s goal, the 27th of her career, came late in the first half and snapped a 1-1 tie. With 5:07 left in the half, she scored an unassisted goal to break the Towson career scoring record she shared with Lisa McCullen, a 1997 graduate.

The Hoyas took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when senior Lauren Galbally(Malvern, Pa./ Villa Maria Academy) scored her first goal of the season on a penalty stroke.

Towson's Ashley Bacon tied the score with 8:46 left in the half when she scored off a pass from senior Melanie Esders. Three minutes later, Lambi gave the Tigers a lead they would never relinquish.

Towson dominated the second half and took a 3-1 lead with 33:25 left in the game on an unassisted goal by sophomore Ashley Lobach, her first goal of the season. Sophomore sweeper Jess Auge made it a 4-1 lead less than two minutes later as she scored the first goal of her college career off a penalty corner. Senior Andrea Schlezes and Lambi assisted on the goal.

The Tigers maintained their 4-1 lead until the final minutes of the game. With 5:35 remaining, senior Kerry Daugherty scored her first career goal off a scramble in front of the cage. Senior Jessica Burkhardt closed out the scoring on an unassisted goal with 3:10 left.

The Tigers owned a 25-6 advantage on shots while freshman goalkeeper Abby Winer (Rising Sun, Md./ Rising Sun) made 15 saves for the Hoyas.
