2005 Georgetown Women' Lacrosse Captains Announced

10/13/2004

WASHINGTON, DC ? Ricky Fried, head coach of the Georgetown University women?s lacrosse program, has announced the captains for the upcoming season.  Seniors Lauryn Bernier (Strafford, Pa./Conestoga), Allison Chambers (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Nyack) and Sarah Oliphant (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) will share the leadership position for 2005.

Bernier, a starting midfielder on the Hoyas? nationally ranked women?s lacrosse team, had a terrific 2004 season.  Bernier tied for first on the squad in ground balls with 55, and was second on the team in draw controls with 37. She also posted 24 points on 17 goals and seven assists and tallied 19 caused turnovers. Bernier ended the year ranked second in the BIG EAST Conference in ground balls. An English major, Bernier earned National Society of Collegiate Scholars honors in 2003.

Chambers, a three-year starter at midfield, posted her best season ever in 2004.  She was the Hoyas? third-leading scorer with 29 goals and 12 assists for 41 points.  In addition, Chambers recorded 48 ground balls, 21 caused turnovers and 19 draw controls.  She scored in every game but one last season, including a four-goal performance in the Hoyas? 12-11 victory over James Madison.

Oliphant, an attacker, enjoyed a terrific junior season in 2004 and started in all 17 games for the Hoyas.  An IWLCA National All-America Third Team selection and All-Region Second Team member last season, Oliphant led the Hoyas in scoring with 52 points on the strength of 32 goals and 20 assists, and was fourth on the squad in ground balls with 46.  She picked up BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week honors twice during the year and was tapped for the All-BIG EAST First Team at the end of the season.  One of her best performances came against BIG EAST opponent Virginia Tech.  Oliphant helped lead the Hoyas to a 16-7 victory with six points off of four goals and two assists.

Georgetown made its seventh-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament in 2004 and its third trip to the final Four in the past four years.  The Hoyas finished the year with a 13-5 overall record and won their fourth-consecutive BIG EAST title with a perfect 6-0 mark.
