WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Georgetown University freshman football student-athlete Matt Barbiasz (Ware, Mass./Ware) was named the Patriot League Football Rookie of the Week after his efforts in last weekend?s 35-19 loss to Bucknell.
Barbiasz had a career day as a freshman against Bucknell with a 99-yard interception return for a TD, six tackles and a recovered fumble. Barbiasz?s 99-yard interception return is a Patriot League and Georgetown record. The score gave GU a 13-7 lead with just over five minutes to play in the first half. Barbiasz also had a big fumble recovery, with Bucknell holding a 21-13 lead and inside GU territory Barbiasz came up with the ball and helped give GU good field position. His six tackles were a career high.
Georgetown hosts VMI this Saturday, October 9, at 2 p.m. on Harbin Field. It is Homecoming Weekend for the Hoyas.
