WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Georgetown junior tailback Kim Sarin (Roseville, Minn./Cretin-Derham) became Georgetown's first single season 1,000 yard rusher with 169 yards on 33 carries, but it was not enough as the Hoyas fell to the Crusaders of Holy Cross 31-28 in overtime. Sarin's season total of 1,051 yards broke Steve Iorio's record of 901 yards in 1997. The Hoyas finish the season with an overall record of 3-8 and a 0-6 mark in Patriot League play.
It was senior day at Harbin field and 16 Georgetown seniors came ready to leave it all out on the field. Senior offensive lineman Frank Terrazzino (Needham, Mass./Needham) started his 44th consecutive game and helped senior quarterback Drew Crawford (Sr., Superior, Colo./Fairview) lead the Hoya offense in his final start with a total of four touchdowns on the day. Crawford tossed three touchdown passes to three fellow seniors, and ran one in from 38 yards out. Crawford also caught a 37-yard pass on a throwback from tailback Sarin. The seniors on the receiving end of Crawford's touchdown throws were Craig Agnello (Sr., Glen Rock, N.J./Glen Rock), Jordan Jarry (Sr., Nashua, N.H./Nashua) and Janeiro Wooten (Sr., Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill).
Crawford finished his career with 21 touchdown passes, tying him for seventh all time, and with 3,221 yards, moving him into sixth all time for the Hoyas. Jarry's touchdown catch was the first this season and his second career TD grab.
The first half was sloppy by both teams, with each squad turning it over three times. Senior Adam Banks (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) made two big interceptions for the Hoyas, but the Hoyas were not able to turn them into points. The half ended with the Hoyas out gaining the Crusaders 215-130 on the field, but the score was tied up at 14.
The Hoyas started the second half strong, scoring twice on the first three possessions to take a 28-14 lead. Holy Cross stormed back to tie it up on two touchdowns passes by John O'Neil to Sean Gruber and Tom Harrison respectively. O'Neil finished the day with three passing touchdowns, two of which were to Gruber.
The teams traded possessions at the end of the fourth quarter but no one could put any more points on the board and regulation ended at 28-28. The Hoyas took the ball first in overtime but were unable to score, suffering a bad snap on a 41-yard field goal try on fourth down. The Crusaders picked up eight yards on their possession, which set up Mike DeSantis' game winning 35-yard field goal that squeaked over the crossbar.
