Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Hoyas? offense racked up 384 total yards, but it was not enough as Georgetown (2-7, 0-5) fell to the #9 Mountain Hawks of Lehigh (8-1, 4-0), 49-18. The Lehigh offense out gained the Hoyas by less than 40 yards (423 total yards), but the Hawks were able to capitalize from good field position to score seven times, including four touchdown passes by quarterback Mark Borda.

Lehigh?s Gerran Walker returned the opening kickoff 89 yards for the score to put Lehigh in front right from the beginning. Georgetown responded with a touchdown on its opening drive, an eight-yard run by Emir Davis (Fr., Trenton, N.J./Hun) off an option pitch by Hoya quarterback Drew Crawford (Sr., Superior, Colo./Fairview). The Hoyas missed the extra point, however.

Lehigh?s offense took advantage of good field position resulting from Hoya missed opportunities, and scored three times to take a 28-12 lead into the break. The Hoyas? second score was also by Davis, a one-yard touchdown run.

The Hoyas tried to turn the field position tables on Lehigh in the beginning of the third by pinning the Hawks on their own three-yard line after an excellent punt by Rob Smith (Jr., Mahopac, N.Y./Somers). The Hawks would not be deterred though; Borda led the Lehigh offense 97 yards down the field for a touchdown in just four plays. Winfred Porter caught and ran for 62 yards on the scoring play, seemingly delivering the knockout punch.

The Hoyas were not ready to give up just yet, and Jasper Ihezie (Fr., Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) took the ensuing kickoff back 90 yards for the score, which is good for a tie at second all-time for the longest kickoff return by a Hoya. The Hoyas failed on the two-point conversion, making the score 35-18.

The Georgetown defense settled down in the third quarter, stopping the Hawks on the next two drives, but they were unable to stop the Hawks from capitalizing on a Kim Sarin (Jr., Roseville, Minn./Cretin-Derham) fumble, and Lehigh scored again at the end of the third to effectively put the Hoyas away.

Sarin?s fumble was the one stain on a good day for the junior running back who carried 13 times for 107 yards. It was Sarin?s fourth 100-yard game of the season, becoming the first back to have four 100 yards games in a season since Steve Iorio did it in 1997. Crawford also played well behind center, completing 17 of 29 passes for 187 yards and still has yet to throw an interception this season. Six of those completions were to senior wide-out Janeiro Wooten (Oxon Hill, Md. / Oxon Hill), who finished with 85 yards on the day.

The Hoyas travel to Davidson next week for their final road contest. Kickoff is set for Saturday, November 13, at 1 p.m.
