WILLIAMSBURG, Va. ? The Georgetown baseball team dropped its second game of a two-game series Sunday, 9-2, against William and Mary at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg, Va.

The Hoyas established an early lead Sunday, as junior Parker Brooks (Las Vegas, Nev./ Bishop Gorman) singled to centerfield, and advanced around the bases by tagging up on a subsequent flyout to centerfield, and then again on a fielder?s choice to short, before eventually scoring on a balk.

William and Mary countered by putting up three runs in the third, before the Hoyas cut the deficit in the top of the sixth when junior Andrew Cleary (Weston, Mass./ Belmont Hill) reached on a HBP, and was moved to third on a Michael Lombardi (Brookhaven Hamlet, NY/ St. Anthony?s) double, before scoring on a sacrifice fly.

The Tribe responded with two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to move the score to 5-2. After holding the Hoyas scoreless in the top of the seventh, William and Mary went on to score four unearned runs and push the deficit to 9-2, where the game stood for the final inning and a half.

Sophomore Stephen Burns (West Chester, Pa./ Malvern Prep) took the loss for the Hoyas after surrendering two earned runs on four hits and four base on balls in four full innings pitched. Lefthander Chris Shaver was credited with the win for the Tribe.

Georgetown stays on the road for their next game, scheduled for Monday at 1:00 p.m. against Norfolk State.
