WASHINGTON, D.C. ? Georgetown men?s lacrosse student-athletes, Brodie Merrill (Orangeville, Ontario/Salisbury School (Conn.)) and Trevor Casey (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) both earned ECAC Player of the Week awards for the week ending March 14th. Merrill was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week while Casey was tabbed as Co-Rookie of the Week.
Merrill for the second straight game was Georgetown?s major defensive presence during its 10-8 win at Penn State. He also ignited the Hoya offense by scoring a game tying-goal (5-5) with five seconds to play in the first half. Merrill and the Hoya defense held the Lions? attack scoreless in the final 14 minutes. He had four takeaways in the game and recorded six ground balls.
Casey hit for two goals in the fourth quarter against Penn State to help Georgetown overcome an 8-6 deficit and garner a 10-8 victory. With Georgetown down 8-6 Casey hit his first score to cut the lead to one. Casey hit his second score with 5:37 remaining, carrying Georgetown to its two-goal win.
Georgetown plays two straight home games, beginning with a 3 p.m. match up on Wednesday, March 17th, against Delaware. Then on Saturday, March 20th, the Hoyas host Hobart at 2 p.m.
