Box Scores: Game 1 - Game 2
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. ? The Georgetown baseball team jumped out to early leads in both games of a road doubleheader against Boston College on Saturday, but eventually fell victim to a two-game sweep against the Eagles, marking a streak of four-consecutive losses for the Hoyas in BIG EAST play.
The Eagles won 10-4 and 13-3 decisions over the visiting Hoyas to lift their record above .500 (21-20) for the first time of the season, and raise their BIG EAST count to 8-6, while Georgetown dropped to 6-16 in the BIG EAST and 23-29 overall.
Boston College's all-time career strikeout leader (248), Chris Lambert, paced BC to the victory in game one. He allowed four runs on six hits with nine strikeouts in his complete-game, 7.0 inning outing.
Jason Delaney had six hits and senior Garrett Greer drove in six runs to the lead the Eagles at the plate.
The Hoyas scored a pair of runs in the top of the first. Leadoff man Parker Brooks (Las Vegas, Nev./ Bishop Gorman) singles and later scored on an RBI double by Billy Quinn (Alta Loma, Calif./ Alta Loma). After a walk was issued to Michael Lombardi (Brookhaven Hamlet, N.Y./ St. Anthony's), Andrew Cleary (Weston, Mass./ Belmont Hill) knocked Quinn in on an RBI single. Two runners were left on base when the inning ended on a Georgetown strikeout.
The Eagles answered from the 2-0 hole with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first on five hits, thanks to Ryan Leahy's sacrifice fly and Jason Delaney's three-run home run. BC scored what would be the game-winning run in the third on senior Josh DiScipio's RBI-double, one of three hits in the game for the Eagle second baseman.
Six Georgetown batters each posted a hit while Quinn drove in two runs for the Hoyas.
Eduardo Pena (Miami, Fla./ Michael Krop) took the loss for Georgetown, allowing eight runs and nine hits in four innings of work on the mound.
In game two, the Hoyas again drew first blood, taking a 2-0 lead before BC climbed back. Greer slammed a two-out, bases-clearing double to send home three runs in the bottom of the third. A four-run offensive outburst by the Eagles in their next at bat sealed the deal, lifting BC to the 7-2 advantage. In that inning, Ryan Morgan drove in two runs and Greer's single brought in a run while Jason Delaney powered an RBI-double.
Kevin Shepard earned his 17th career victory with the win, while Erick Chandler (Somerset, N.J./ Rutgers Prep) took the loss for the Hoyas.
Quinn and Matthew Johnson (Bothell, Wash./ Newport) each registered a pair of hits for Georgetown in the second game. Johnson drove in two runs with a single in the second inning and a double in the sixth inning.Quinn raised his season average to .348 after going 3-for-6 on the day.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow at noon.
