Bowen Holden Promoted to Women' Lacrosse Associate Head Coach

WASHINGTON, DC ? Georgetown University Head Women?s Lacrosse Coach, Ricky Fried, has announced that Bowen Holden has been promoted to Associate Head Coach.? Holden just finished her third season as an assistant coach for the Hoyas? nationally ranked women?s lacrosse program, focusing on the goalies and defense.? In her new role, Holden will add recruiting and fundraising duties to the coaching responsibilities.

Coach Fried comments on Holden, ?I am pleased to promote Bowen to Associate Head Coach.? She?s done an excellent job over the past three years developing our goalies and defensive unit and she brings a wealth of playing experience to the position. I have no doubt that she will successfully step up to the challenges and demands this new position will present.?

Holden graduated from Georgetown University in 2001 with a degree in Physics after competing as the starting goalkeeper for the Hoyas' nationally ranked lacrosse team for three years.? She wrapped up a stellar career as the 2001 NCAA Woman of the Year for the District of Columbia for her outstanding accomplishments in academics, athletics, and community leadership.? She was also the recipient of Georgetown?s prestigious Robert A. Duffey Award as the senior student-athlete who best embodies both academic and athletic excellence.

Holden had an exceptional 2001 season in the cage despite a torn ACL in her knee.? She was named the 2001 National Goalkeeper of the Year and selected to the National All-American First Team and Academic All-American Team.? A nominee for the inaugural Tewaaraton Trophy, Holden was also a finalist for the NCAA Honda Award.? She also earned Regional All-American accolades for the fourth time in her career and All-BIG EAST First Team honors.? As a tri-captain of the 2001 squad, she helped lead the Hoyas to one of their best seasons in history, a first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Final Four, a double-overtime loss in the National Championship Game, and a record of 17-3.?

Closing out her collegiate career, Holden is ranked second on Georgetown?s all-time career leaders list for saves.? She was also named to the 2000 All-American Second Team and to the South Region All-American First Team.

?A former member of the US Developmental squad, as well as a US Lacrosse Division I All-American, Holden ended the 1999 season in second place on the NCAA Division I Statistical Leaders List in save percentage and earned South Regional All-America Second Team honors.

Holden is actively involved in enhancing the Georgetown Athlete Mentoring Enterprise (GAME) program on campus as a means of helping inner-city youth.
