OFFENSE
Quarterbacks
For the third consecutive season the Hoyas? quarterback situation will be unsettled heading into preseason practice. Three quarterbacks return from last season and will be joined by a North Carolina transfer and two freshmen. It will be a heated competition with a starter most likely being named just prior to the start of the season.
Senior Andrew Crawford was the starter in all 12 games last season. He also started a handful of games his sophomore year before an injury cut his season short. Crawford connected on 53.6% (143-of-267) of his attempts in 2003 for 1,967 yards and 16 touchdowns. He is a steady presence in the huddle and is a front-runner for the starting role in his final season.
Two sophomores, Keith Allan and David Fajgenbaum, both have a year of Division I-AA football under their belts. Neither saw time as a quarterback last year. Allan had a strong spring and is adept at moving outside the pocket. Fajgenbaum is a traditional drop-back passer with a strong arm. Both could make an impact this fall.
A newcomer, Nick Cangelosi, is also expected to be in the mix for the starting job. Cangelosi comes to the Hilltop after redshirting his freshman year at the University of North Carolina. He is an accurate passer and was one of the top quarterbacks in New Jersey his senior year of high school.
Waiting in the wings will be two freshmen, Andrew Hartigan and Rob Hepler.

Fullbacks
The fullback slot is an open competition with three players entering the season as possible starters. Only sophomore P.J. Cameron has any experience as a Hoya and that was on defense last season. Cameron moved over to fullback in the spring and is the leading candidate for the position. He will be joined by two freshmen, Matt Barnes and Erik Carter, as all three will attempt to land the starting job.

Tailbacks
Another spot in the backfield that will be a firestorm of activity this fall will be the tailback position. Three returning players, Marcus Slayton, John Sims and Kim Sarin will all be in contention for taking over the starting spot. It is reminiscent of last season when all three entered preseason in the same predicament and Slayton emerged as the starter.
The junior Slayton racked up 701 yards during the first 10 games of 2003 before an injury shortened his year. He had three 100-yard games, which is the first time that had happened at Georgetown since 1997, and he averaged 4.6 yards per carry. Slayton is the biggest of the three veterans and can handle a pounding.
Sims is a senior and was the starter in 2002 and started the final two games last year. Even sharing time with Slayton last year Sims posted 568 yards on 88 carries for a 6.5 yards per carry average. He punched in five touchdowns and set a Georgetown single game record with 268 yards against Davidson. Sims is quick and hits a hole fast.
The third year player Sarin had a strong spring and has been in the mix at tailback his first two campaigns. He rushed for 245 yards last year on 28 attempts and also snared 10 passes for 89 yards. Sarin is the smallest of the trio but brings an evasiveness that neither Slayton nor Sims possess.
Sean Todman and Emir Davis are two freshmen that will begin their Hoya careers at tailback.

Offensive Linemen
The most consistent part of the Hoya offense is also the most important as four of five starters return on the offensive line. Last season?s front forces supplied the Hoya running backs and quarterback with ample blocking and protection. The GU offense produced 1,813 rushing yards, doubling the yards gained the prior season.
Captains Ryan Goethals and Frank Terrazzino both enter their final season as starters in the Blue and Gray. Goethals returns to the center position where he played in all 12 games in 2003. He has great strength and supplies strong leadership in the huddle. Terrazzino suits up next to Goethals at right guard for the third straight season. Terrazzino is a smart player with the size and footwork to fend off the opposing line.
The other returning starters are seniors Jon Cummings and Chris Riley. Cummings will step back into his role at right tackle where he played in 11 games last year. Riley returns at left guard after earning the starter?s role early last season.
Junior Craig Warznak began 2003 as the starter at left guard and will be competing for that role again this year. Senior Nicholas Rojo and sophomore Jack Vander Leeuw will be trying to land the starting left tackle position. Rojo?s minutes have been limited his first three seasons, switching between offense and defense. Vander Leeuw missed all of last season with a broken leg but recovered well and had a superb spring. Another sophomore Thomas King will be in the mix for playing time, most likely at right tackle. Senior Michael Moore and junior Robert LaHayne are making the move from defensive line to offensive line this year and could see minutes as well.
Returning for year number two will be four sophomores, Robert Browning, Fritz Brogan, Liam Grubb and Andrew Rehwinkel. Browning and Rehwinkel move to offense after playing defensive line. Brogan and Grubb will both provide needed depth at any of the five line positions.
Six freshmen will get inducted into the Hoya trenches as Justin Zerbato, Shawn Frederick, Dan Osterhout, Bryan Severance, Luke Warring and Jerome Brown all will don the Hoya apparel.

Wide Receivers
Both starters from last season graduated which makes this year?s corps light on experience but heavy on talent. Three seniors, two juniors and a sophomore all will be competing for the two openings, with each bringing a different element to the position.
Rejoining the receiving corps, as seniors are Craig Agnello, Janeiro Wooten and Dan Paulus. Agnello has seen the most game action as a wide out of all the returnees. He made six catches last season for 69 yards and one score and brings good hands and route running to the table. Wooten made four snags in 2003 including a 40-yarder against Stony Brook. Paulus runs crisp routes and will be contending for playing time.
Junior Dominique Saunders has excellent hands and saw action in eight contests last year. He pulled down five balls for 67 yards and is expected to increase those numbers significantly this year. The two other juniors, Steve Ekechuku and Chris Gary, have not seen much live game action. Ekechuku missed his freshman year with a knee injury and saw most of his time last year on special teams. Gary has the ability to make the difficult grab and played in two games in 2003.
Jonathan Edwards is a sophomore with the best speed of the wide receiving bunch. He had a strong spring session and is one of the returnees who can stretch the defense downfield.
Brad Moss, Jasper Ihezie and John Lancaster are freshmen and will try to earn some time during their first season.

Tight Ends
Three contributing veteran players return at tight end. The position produced 27 receptions and 307 yards last season and will again be counted on to help the receiving game and the rushing attack.
Senior Jordan Jarry increased his mobility and size after snagging seven balls for 84 yards last year. He blocks well and can release off the line for a quick hitter. Joining him in the battle for starter will be junior Glenn Castergine. Castergine was the most productive tight end through the air last year, grabbing 17 passes for 223 yards; both placed third on the team. He is a strong, speedy player and can turn a short grab into a long gain. The other veteran is senior Ryan Franken. Franken has been a presence on the Hoya offense all four of his seasons. He is a big target and can keep the defense honest with both his receiving and blocking ability.
Three newcomers will bolster the tight end position as sophomore transfer Jarrod Kohl and freshmen Harrison Beacher and David Zerbato all join the Hoyas.
