BOX SCORE
FAIRFAX, Va. ? Georgetown Women?s Soccer (3-3-0) fell to George Mason (2-3-1) on Saturday, September 11 in the final game of the George Mason/Burger King Invitational.
The first half was low scoring, as the Patriots held only a one-goal lead over the Hoyas. George Mason?s freshman defender Jessica Paris scored the first goal of the game with only three minutes remaining in the first half off an assist from Sarah Wilkinson, ending the half with the Patriots leading 1-0.
The Patriots added an insurance marker in the 71st minute as Wilkinson, who received a centered pass from sophomore midfielder L.J. Williams, dribbled a few steps before blasting a goal from 25 yards out into the right corner, putting the Patriots on top, 2-0
The Hoyas narrowed the lead to 2-1 following effective give-and-go crossing passes between Cristina Araps (Belle Meade, N.J./Montgomery) , Casey McCann (Mendham, N.J./Mendham) and Sara Jordan (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central). Jordan?s shot from 10 yards out found the back of the net at 76:05 to trim the advantage. Roughly four minutes later, however, Mason?s Williams found herself open in front of the net for a score in the 81st minute, giving the Patriots a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish. Freshman goalie Jade Higgins (Island Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) had seven saves for the Hoyas.
The Hoyas (3-3-0) will face their first BIG EAST opponent of 2004 when they travel to Pittsburgh on Friday, September 17. The game will be played at 7 p.m.
