BOX SCORE
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Georgetown men?s soccer (4-5-0) blew out Mount St. Mary?s (0-5-2) on Saturday afternoon, scoring eight goals in the contest. The Hoyas rebounded from a loss to Big East rival #5 St. John?s at North Kehoe on Wednesday, to record an impressive non-conference victory.
The Hoyas opened up the scoring on a great goal from senior Kevin Sindelar (Potomac, Md./ Churchill) off a cross from senior Trevor Goodrich (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto), at the 23:50 mark of the first half. The half ended seeing the Hoyas hold a 1-0 lead. The first half was marked as a rough and tough half, seeing ten fouls called and three yellow cards awarded.
The rough play continued into the second half, where three minutes in Mount St. Mary?s midfielder Luke Strutt received a red card. The dismissal came after sophomore Ricky Schramm (Fordham Prep/East Chester, N.Y.) scored on an unassisted goal, where he just slide in behind the defense of the Mountaineers and put it pass the goalkeeper. Less than a minute later, Schramm netted his second goal on a feed across the goalmouth from senior Kaiser Chowdry (Columbia, Md./ McDonogh), to put the Hoyas up 3-0.
The Mountaineers continued to play hard and were able to pull within two, after scoring a header by forward Kurt Borel. However, playing with only ten players showed to be a challenge for Mount St. Mary?s and five minutes later, at the 66:21 minute mark, Chowdhry scored the first of his two goals on the day, after beating the goalie one on one.
Chowdhry?s goal put the game out of reach for the Mountaineers, but the goals didn?t stop coming, as the Hoyas were able to capitalize on defensive mistakes en route to the 8-1 victory. The other goal scorers for the Hoyas were freshman Mike Glaccum (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle H.S.) with two goals and junior Chris Tansey (Short Hills, N.J./ Millburn) with one.
Hoya keeper Andrew Keszler (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) faced two shots on the day, allowing one and saving the other. He played seventy-five minutes for the game, and freshman keeper Joe Devine (Philadelphia, Pa./The Haverford School) and sophomore keeper Ted Shanahan (Marblehead, Mass./St. John's Prep), split the remaining time in goal.
The Hoyas finish their three game home stand on Wednesday, September 29th, at 3 p.m. against BIG EAST opponent West Virginia.
