The Skinny
Georgetown and St. Francis open the 2004 football season today. The two schools have not met since 1988 when the Hoyas won at home 51-7. The series began in 1978 and the teams battled each other 10 times between 1978-1988 skipping the ?83 season. The Hoyas own the series 8-2 but both losses came in D.C.

The Hoyas bring back 71 letterwinners from last season, which includes 14 starters. Two new coordinators, offense and defense, will provide the Blue and Gray a new look with familiar faces. 2003 Second Team All-Patriot League defensive end Michael Ononibaku returns this year after leading GU in sacks with eight as a sophomore. On offense starting quarterback Drew Crawford returns for his final season. Crawford threw for 16 TDs last season but his favorite wideout targets have graduated. Juniors Kim Sarin and Marcus Slayton, who combined rushed for 946 yards in 2003, will be the basis of GU?s rushing attack.

St. Francis comes into the season after posting a 1-9 mark last year. The Red Flash return 18 starters, nine each on offense and defense. Last season?s starting quarterback, Anthony Doria, is back at the helm as a sophomore. He threw for 1,663 yards and 12 TDs in 2003. The defense is led by senior defensive back Marcus Haines who notched a team high 90 tackles last year and had two picks.

You Should Know...
This is the first time in three seasons that the Hoyas have not opened up against the defending Patriot League Champion. Last season GU fell in the last seconds, 20-19, to Colgate and the two prior seasons the Hoyas dropped games against Lehigh.
