The Scoop
Georgetown takes on a Rutgers squad that is rolling right now, winning six straight with wins over top 10 squads from Tennessee, Texas and LSU. Meanwhile the Hoyas have lost three straight and have yet to win on the road. What bodes well is that Georgetown's two victories all-time over Rutgers have come at the RAC and despite the Scarlet Knights owning a 10-2 all-time mark they are only 3-2 at home versus GU. Those five games at RU have been decided by an average of just over five points.
It has been a tough beginning in 2005 for the Hoyas with three of their first four games on the road and the lone home contest coming against #14 Boston College. Center Varda Tamoulianis has had a remarkable beginning to her final season, posting career highs in every statistical category across the board. Her 9.0 rebounding average ranks third in the conference, as does her offensive and defensive rebounding average. Tamoulianis has also been a shot eraser, owning the middle of GU's zone by blocking 30 shots, which ranks second in the league, 30th nationally and #10 on GU's single season list. Tamoulianis' fellow seniors Mary Lisicky and Sarah Jenkins have had a more difficult season as both are coming off the bench due to injuries after beginning the year in the starting lineup.
After losing games to Old Dominion and Temple in mid-December Rutgers has righted the ship with six straight wins. Matee Ajavon headed the return to winning ways by leading the team in scoring in four of the past six contests. She ranks second on the squad in points per game with 12.9 while Michelle Campbell leads RU with 13.2. In the Scarlet Knights first two conference games they held St. John's and Pitt to an average of 45 points.
