WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Georgetown University women's basketball team (6-12, 1-6) tonight fell to BIG EAST foe Seton Hall (11-8, 3-5), 63-47. Freshman Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./ Coatesville) was a bright spot for the Hoyas, recording her BIG EAST leading ninth double-double with 12 points and pulling down a career high 14 rebounds. Bethany LeSueur (Jr., Garden City, N.Y./ Garden City (Virginia)) and Varda Tamoulianis (Sr., Moscow, Russia/ Academy of Labour and Social Relations) both added 10 points for the Hoyas.
The Hoyas held the lead for the first 12 minutes of the game, but strong offensive rebounding kept the Pirates close. The Pirates took the lead with 8:56 left in the first period and took a 25-22 lead into the break. Seton Hall pulled away in the second half, effectively sealing the game with an Asia Carroll three pointer late in the game. Carroll led the Pirates with a game high 19 points. The Pirates also received a strong performance from Ashley Bush, who narrowly missed a double-double with 15 points and 9 rebounds.
The Hoyas protected the ball better, recording just 12 turnovers to Seton Hall's 17, but were out-rebounded 43-32. Both teams shot 60% from the free-throw line. The Hoyas shot just 31% from the field and hit only 1-of-8 three pointers.
The Hoyas travel to Providence this weekend to take on the Friars on Saturday, January 29th. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
