Hoyas Fall 64-51 to North Dakota St. in Opener of Ball St. Credit Union Classic

Muncie, Ind. - The Georgetown University women's basketball team was plauged by 29 percent shooting from the floor and dropped a 64-51 decision to North Dakota State in the opening game of the 2005 Ball State Credit Union Classic in Muncie, Ind. The Hoyas (2-1) will face either Lipscomb on Sunday at 12 noon.

Junior Kate Carlin (Ambler, Pa./Mt. St. Joseph's) scored a season-high 16 points and matched a career-high with seven field goals while hauling in nine rebounds to go along with three assists.

Senior Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City, N.Y.) tallied 11 points for the second straight game and pulled down 12 rebounds for her fourth career double-double. LeSueur also handed out six assists against 0 turnovers.

Sophomore Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) notched 12 points for her third straight double-figure effort.

The Hoyas, who made just four of their first 22 field goals over the game's opening 12 minutes, faced their first halftime deficit of the season, 32-23 as GU shot just 29 percent from the floor in the opening period (9-31). Georgetown came into the game making 72 percent of their free throws but managed just 5-11 from the charity stripe in the first half. North Dakota State outrebounded the Hoyas 29-19 before halftime and outscored GU, 14-6 in the paint.

Carlin made all three of her first half field goals over a two minute stretch in the final five minutes of the half to keep GU close.

North Dakota St., who shot 48 percent in the second half, opened a 42-31 advantage with 12:04 to go before the Bison went on a 9-2 run over the next four-plus minutes to take a 52-33 lead. Georgetown would not get closer than 56-44 the rest of the way.

Freshman forward Katrina Wheeler (Wasington, D.C./Theodore Roosevelt) picked up two personal fouls just 34 seconds into the game and finished with seven points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes of action.

Georgetown will face either Ball St./Lipscomb on Sunday in the Championship Game of the 2005 Ball St Credit Union Classic on Sunday.
