Georgetown Women's Basketball Hosts Clemson on Friday

Dec. 29, 2005

Washington, D.C. -- The Georgetown University women's basketball team (6-4) will close out the 2005 calendar year when they host Clemson (6-6) on Friday, December 30 inside McDonough Arena. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. and the game can be seen on www.guhoyas.com.

The Hoyas have won two straight games and will look to remain unbeaten at home (3-0).

Georgetown, playing their final non-league opponent of the season, is coming off a 71-62 win at Florida Atlantic on Wednesday. Sophomore forward Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) came off the bench to score 20 points after missing the previous three games with a knee injury and the Hoyas overcame a ten-point halftime deficit. Senior guard Bethany LeSueur (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) matched a career-high with 20 points while freshman Katrina Wheeler (Washington, D.C./T. Roosevelt) set a new career-high with 17 points.

Over the last three games, Wheeler is averaging 15.7 points, 10.3 rebounds and is making 41 percent of her shots from the floor. The 6-4 forward has set new career-high points in each of the last two games with 16 points vs. American and the 17 points last time out at FAU.

GU made 13 of 14 free throws in the final three minutes in the win at Florida Atlantic. The Hoyas have converted on 78 percent (46-59) of their shots from the charity stripe in the last five minutes of games.

Georgetown second-year Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy has led the Hoyas to an 18-20 record.

Clemson, winners of four straight, defeated Georgetown, 71-62 last year in South Carolina in the only other meeting between the schools. First-year Head Coach Cristy McKinney, who spent the previous 12 seasons at Rice University, has never faced Georgetown.
