Georgetown Baseball Announces Class of 2010

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University head baseball coach Pete Wilk announced that eight student-athletes have made an early commitment to play baseball for the Hoyas starting in the spring of 2007. Wilk, who is entering his seventh season with the Hoyas, said, "All five of the pitchers were highly recruited out of high school, and should have a tremendous impact on our pitching staff as freshmen. The four position players should contribute right away and help us make strides towards our success."

Tim Adleman, RHP, 6-4, 180 (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield High School)
Three-year letterwinner on the Wakefield HS baseball team for Coach Ed Hall ... Co-captain as a senior ... Earned Academic All-Conference in 2005 after striking out 19 in 14.2 innings, posting a 3-0 record with a 1.23 ERA ...Helped his high school team to 21-3 record as a junior and a Conference Championship as the team was ranked as high as No. 2 ... Earned the Lamp of Knowledge Award ... Nominated for the Wendy's High School Heisman Award ... Helped beat Lee County High School to win the Bobby Murray Invitational Tournament in 2005.

"Tim Adleman is a hard thrower with an above average changeup," said Wilk. "Tim should compete for a spot in the rotation from the moment he gets on campus."

Jack Bender, RHP, 5-10, 170 (Cranford, N.J./Cranford High School)
Three-year letterwinner for Cranford High School...Helped to lead team to conference and state section championships ... Was the winning pitcher in two of the three state tournament victories, including the state section championship game where he gave up three hits while striking out 12 ... Named to all-county an all-conference teams ... Played for the Diamond Player Development Team ... During junior season posted a 7-2 overall record on the mound, while also leading the team in RBI with 33 ... A member of the national honor society, he was awarded the Rochester Institute of Technology Computing Medal that is awarded to the high school junior who displays the combination of computing excellence, character and community service.

Dan Capeless, 1B, 6-1, 215 (Centerville, Mass./Boston College High School)
Three-year starter at first base for Boston College High School ... Also a four-year starter for the football team ... Ranked by Baseball America as one of the top three players in Massachusetts and top 300 in the nation ... PUMA Pre-Season All-American for 2005 and 2006 ... Three-time Perfect Game Top Prospect Team honoree ... Named a Team One Top Underclassman in 2005 ... 2003 Triple Crown All-Northeast Team ... as a sophomore helped to lead high school to Catholic Conference championship and South Sectional title by batting .500 in the cleanup slot in the Massachusetts State Tournament ... Cape Cod Senior Babe Ruth Team won state championship and were regional runners-up ... Four-time Boston College High School Scholar-Athlete ... Member of National Honor Society and Key Society.

Joe Silvestri, INF, 5-10, 180 (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy)
A three-year letterwinner for Coach Jack Curran ... Named Newsday All-City as a shortstop in 2004 and 2005 ... Named Queens Courier All-Queens in 2004 and 2005 ... Named FABL Silver Slugger in 2004 ... IN 2004 batted .538 with a homer and 12 RBI in Hawaiian Tropic Tournament in Myrtle Beach ... In 2005, hit .533 a homer and 14 RBI in Hawaiian Tropic Tournament in Myrtle Beach ... In 2004 batted .640 with three round-trippers and 22 RBI in FABL Playoffs ... Part of the Gold Medal winning team at the Empire Games.

Billy Concannon, RHP/1B, 6-4, 180 (Dallas, Texas/St. Mark's School of Texas)
Three-year starter and captain elect for St. Mark's School of Texas ... Helped to lead St. Mark's to back-to-back Southwest Preparatory Conference Championships in 2003 and 2004 ... Named one of Baseball America's Top 400 for the class of 2006 ... Earned Top Prospect Team honors at the 2005 National Underclass Showcase ... Named high school team's Top Slugger after leading team in home runs, RBI's, and slugging percentage in '05 ... Threw a no-hitter at Oklahoma State Tournament for the Dallas Mustangs Baseball Club ... Played for the Dallas Baseball Academy of Texas from 2002-03 ... Four year member of the St. Mark's Honor Roll ... Part of Big Brothers, Big Sisters ... Lion and Sword Society member at St. Mark's during junior and senior years.

Derek DiGuglielmo, INF, 5-10, 170 (Dobbs Ferry, N.Y./Dobbs Ferry High School)
Helped the Dobbs Ferry HS team to a 81-11 record in five years as a varsity starter for Coach Ted Huffman ... A three-time All- League honoree ... A two-time All-Section honoree ... Named 2005 Section 1 Player of the Year ...Named All-State ... Named 2005 Enterprise Player of the Year ... As a junior, batted .528 with a .691 slugging percentage, driving in 34 runs in 22 games ... As a sophomore, batted .456 with a .582 on-base percentage and swiped 12 of 12 stolen bases ... A member of the school's Math Team, Science Club, serving as President of the Italian National Honor Society and an Italian Merit Award for Excellence honoree.

Alex Meyer, LHP, 6-2, 170, (Pompton Plains, N.J./Don Bosco Prep)
A four-year letterwinner on the baseball team for Coach Leon Matthews ... Two-year letterwinner on the ice hockey team ... Named All-League as a freshman ... Named Puma Pre-Season All-American ... Helped lead the team to the 2005 NNJIL League Championship ... As a junior, posted a 7-1 record, striking out 71 batters in 40 innings ... Member of the National honor Society and the Math and Italian Honor Societies.

"Alex Meyer is polished already and he should compete for a job in the rotation as a lefty. He throws hard and does a nice job locating his pitches and has good command of his breaking ball."

Cary Piligian, RHP, 5-11-185 (Troy, Mich./Univ. of Detroit Jesuit High School)
Four-year letterwinner on the baseball team for Coach Al Fernandez ... Three-year letterwinner on the football team as a RB, LB and K/P ... Named All Catholic League as a freshman in 2003 ... Named All-District and earned the Coaches Award as a sophomore in helping the team to the District Championship ...Named All-District and earned the Coaches Award as a junior in 2005 ... Struck out 15 batters against Catholic ... Posted a 4-2 record in 2005 with a 1.31 ERA ... Member of the school Student Senate for three years.

"Cary Piligian throws hard and his ball has a lot of late movement to it. He throws what we call a heavy ball, and he should compete for a starting job as a freshman."

Georgetown finished the 2005 season with a 25-31 overall record and opens the 2006 season with a two-game series at William & Mary on February 11 and 12.
