The Hoyas (14-6, 6-3) defeated the visiting pirates of Seton Hall (10-8, 2-5) on 02/02/05 (ESPN Classic?s ?Retro Night?) by a score of 61-51. Brandon Bowman led all scorers with 25 points including 14 of 15 from the stripe. He also led GU?s board men with 7 rebounds and had an assist, a steal and a block. Ashanti Cook contributed 12 points and 5 boards while Jonathan Wallace and Jeff Green each added 10 points.
Georgetown established an early lead which it never relinquished. Holding the Pirates to 23.1 % shooting from the field and on 14.3% from beyond the arc, the Hoyas dominated the first frame. With a 21-15 rebounding edge and a 5-0 lead in blocks, the Hoyas led by a dozen at intermission, 27-15.
In the second half GU built its lead to as many as 16 on two occasions but seemed unprepared when the visitors stormed back to cut the margin to 6. The Hoyas applied some pressure to keep the Pirates from getting any closer and when SHU decided to force the Hoyas to make their free throws that just what GU did to the tune of 16 for 20 from the sin stripe.
For the game the Hoyas shot 41% while holding Seton Hall to 31.1%. GU won the battle of the boards 36-33, and had 7 blocks to the Pirates 1, but committed 17 turnovers to Seton Hall?s 11. The final score was 61-51.
