The Scoop
Georgetown plays its fifth consecutive road game of the 2005 season, and for the second time this year it is pupil versus mentor. Hobart head coach Matt Kerwick was one of
Dave Urick's players between 1986-90 at Hobart and was an assistant coach at Georgetown between 1999-01. Urick, of course, also has other ties with Hobart as he was Hobart's head man for 10 seasons between 1980-90 and brought 10 straight NCAA Championships to the Statesmen. This will be the 11th time that Urick will have to face his former school and after losing the first showdown ever between these two institutions in 1995 the Hoyas have ripped off nine straight and own the series, 9-1. Last season's game in D.C. was a tight Hoya win, 9-7, with the game tied at seven midway through the fourth quarter before GU's
Walid Hajj and
Nick Miaritis teamed up for two goals to secure the win.
The Hoyas are riding a three game winning streak after defeating Delaware on Wednesday night, 9-8. Georgetown was in a 6-4 hole at the half against the Blue Hens before outscoring Delaware 5-2 in the final two quarters. It was just the second time in the past 11 games that Georgetown had found itself down at the break. Eight separate Hoyas notched a goal in the game with freshman Matt McBride netting a team high two and the game winner with 4:24 to play. GU goalie Rich D'Andrea recorded his second consecutive game of 10 saves and D'Andrea and the defense held an opponent to under 10 goals for the third time straight game. The Hoyas two preseason All-American defenders, Brodie Merrill and Reyn Garnett, rank one, two on GU's groundball list with 27 and 15 respectively. Both have played consistent defense against the opponent's top offensive threats.
Hobart is undefeated in 2005 with wins over Butler, Binghamton, Ohio State and Robert Morris. The Statesmen are averaging over 11 goals a game and only Robert Morris has scored in double digits against HC's defense. Daryl Veltman leads the offense with 10 goals and face-off specialist John Soden is winning over 69% of his attempts.
You Should Know...
Freshman Matt McBride ranks second in goal scoring for Georgetown. He has six goals in 2005 and has scored two goals in each of the Hoyas three victories. McBride netted the game-winning goal against both Syracuse and Delaware.

In Georgetown's five plus seasons of ECAC league play the Hoyas have only lost three times. GU boasts a 23-3 overall record in ECAC contests and has won the league crown four of five seasons.
