WASHINGTON, DC - No. 5 Georgetown hosted its first home men's lacrosse game of the 2005 season and fell 12-3 to No. 3 Duke. The Hoyas (4-2) suffered their first loss to the Blue Devils (9-0) in five years and had their four game winning streak snapped in front of 1,124 spectators while Duke remained undefeated.

Georgetown found itself down 2-0 at the end of the first quarter after Duke scored twice in the initial six minutes of the contest. The Blue Devils then netted three more to start the second quarter before Georgetown slowed the barrage with Sean Denihan (Manhasset, NY/Manhasset) scoring his ninth goal of the year. Eight seconds later Duke's Zack Greer replenished the Blue Devils' five-goal advantage at the 6:49 mark. Then with just over a minute left Duke tallied again and staked a 7-1 halftime advantage. It was the third straight game the Hoyas have been down at the break.

Andy Corno (Bethesda, MD/Walt Whitman) had a tough go of it in the face-off circle in the first half, winning just 2-of-8 attempts against Duke's Dan Oppedisano, but Corno responded in the second half, winning 7-of-9 attempts in the final 30 minutes. Down big at the break the Hoyas' Trevor Casey (Bethesda, MD/Georgetown Prep) scored a goal off an assist from Denihan 50 seconds into the second half and breathed some life into the Hoya faithful. Corno won the ensuing face-off and GU had two shots at Duke's cage but came up empty. Duke's Dan Flannery finished off the Hoyas hopes scoring four of his five goals in the game's final 25 minutes. GU's Andrew Baird (Baltimore, MD/Loyola Blakefield) posted GU's final score off an assist from Mat Wilson (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve) with just over two minutes remaining.

Duke's Dan Flannery was the game leader in goals with five and Matt Danowski led in assists with four. On the day GU took 43 shots compared to Duke's 33 and Duke won the groundball battle with a 46-44 advantage. In the cage Georgetown's Rich D'Andrea (Belle Mead, NJ/The Peddie School) made nine stops while Duke's starter Aaron Fenton had 14 saves before giving way to Dan Loftus, who had one.

Next up for Georgetown will be a nationally televised showdown with the Naval Academy on Saturday, April 2 at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU and locally on Baltimore's WMAR Channel 2.
