The Scoop
The tables have turned in the Georgetown-Loyola series; after Loyola won 23-of-24 games to begin the rivalry the Hoyas have won the past three meetings. The Greyhounds are Georgetown's oldest and most faced foe in men's lacrosse history. Today's game will be the 28th meeting all-time between the institutions and the 15th time the schools have met in D.C. Loyola leads the overall series 23-4, including a 13-1 mark in Washington. The schools took two hiatus' in the series between 1987-1993 and 1998-2000; otherwise they have met every season since 1970. This will be the first time the two teams have faced as ECAC members with Loyola joining the conference this year. The showdown marks the first of four straight conference games for Georgetown to end the season.
The Hoyas played their ninth road game at Mt. St. Mary's on Wednesday and won a 14-10 affair. GU had nine separate players net a goal in the game, led by senior Brice Queener who set a new career high with four scores. GU's offense has been spread out with 21 different Hoyas scoring a goal. Seven players have five or more goals and four have had three or more goals in a game. Trevor Casey, Nick Miaritis and Sean Denihan all have over 10 scores this season with 13, 12 and 11 respectively.
Georgetown has won two ECAC league games this season, defeating St. John's and Hobart. Loyola is 3-1 in league play with wins coming against St. John's, UMass and Rutgers. The Greyhounds lone league loss was at Penn State, 16-14. All four of Loyola's losses have come against Top 20 teams including last weekend's 12-6 setback against #7 Syracuse. LC is scoring just over eight goals a game and limiting the opposition to 7.6. Matt Monfett leads the offense with 13 goals and goalie Michael Fretwell leads the defense with a 7.48 GAA and .579 save %.
