WASHINGTON, DC - Georgetown senior LSM Brodie Merrill (Orangeville, Ontario/ Salisbury School) has been named to the list of 16 nominees for the 2005 Tewaaraton Trophy. This award is the top individual honor in collegiate men's lacrosse.
Merrill, along with 15 others, has been selected for the first round of nominations. The list of 16 will be narrowed to five, and the award will be presented on June 2, 2005. Merrill was one of five finalists for last year's Tewaaraton Trophy.
One of the Hoya captains for the 2005 season, Merrill was named the ECAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and has won ECAC Defensive Player of the Week honors twice this season. Merrill leads the Hoyas with 72 groundballs, and is in the top-ten nationally for groundballs per game. He is regarded as one of the premier defensive players throughout the lacrosse world and has been making his mark this season offensively as well, notching four goals and contributing three assists.
Merrill would be the first Georgetown player to win the Tewaaraton Trophy since the award's inception five years ago.
