Lexington, VA-- The Georgetown University baseball team (25-28) lost to VMI I 16-7 on Tuesday, May 17. Mark McLaughlin led the Hoyas, going two for three with two runs scored and three RBI. Joe Graziano went two for four with an RBI and a run scored.
The Hoyas started the scoring early, bringing four runs across the plate in the top of the first. After being walked, Billy Quinn advanced to second on an Andrew Cleary single. Ryan Craft then drew a walk to load the bases with two out. McLaughlin then doubled to bring in Quinn, Cleary, and Craft. Graziano followed up with a double one play later to bring in McLaughlin.
VMI answered back in the bottom of the fourth, notching one run where Klint Reed singled in Matt Smith to bring the score to 4-1. The Keydets then went on a scoring barrage in the fourth and fifth innings, scoring nine runs in the fourth to bring the score to 10-4, and then adding three more in the fifth; making the score 13-4.
The Hoyas looked to rebound in the sixth, where McLaughlin led the inning off with a walk. Graziano followed up with a single to left. Matt Bouchard then blasted a two-run homerun to bring the Hoyas within six, making the score 13-7.
VMI tallied three more runs in the seventh, after B.T. Good tripled to right center to drive in two runs. Elliott Erbe then singled to drive in Good to make the final 16-7.
The Hoyas will next host BIG EAST rival Pittsburgh, in their final home stand of the year on Thursday, May 19 at 5 p.m. for the start of a doubleheader.
