Arlington, VA--The Georgetown University baseball team defeated cross-town opponent George Washington 10-8 on Tuesday, May 3 at Barcroft Park. The Hoyas improve to 23-25 with the win. Parker Brooks had four hits, tallied three runs, and drove in 1 RBI. Billy Quinn added four hits, three RBI, and one run scored.
The Hoyas started off the scoring, going up 1-0 in the first inning. Quinn drove in Brooks, after he had doubled to start the game off. Georgetown added three more runs in the third to extend the lead to 4-0. Quinn tallied his second RBI of the day, driving in Joe Graziano who singled to start off the inning. Andrew Cleary then drove in Brooks who had also tallied a hit after Graziano. Ryan Craft drove in the final run of the inning, scoring Quinn off a single.
George Washington tallied three runs in the third to cut the Hoyas lead to one. Tom Shanley, Josh Goldberg, and Ryan Roberson each tallied a run. The Colonials tied it up in the fourth, with Brad Rosenblat blasting a solo homerun to right field.
The score remained tied through the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, the Hoyas notched four runs to extend the Hoyas lead to 8-4. The Hoyas loaded the bases with no outs, and although Graziano hit into a double play, Mark McLaughlin tallied a run on the hit. It looked as though the inning may end, but a double by Brooks scored Jim Supple. Timmy Jones then doubled to score Brooks. Quinn notched his second RBI of the day, scoring Jones.
George Washington added four runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth, again tying the score at 8. Rosenblat tallied his second run of the game, along with Michael Parker, Shanley, and Roberson all adding runs.
Georgetown scored the two winning runs in the ninth, where Matt Johnson singled to drive in McLaughlin. Danny Gronski then doubled to bring in Johnson to make the score 10-8. The Hoya defense would prevail as those runs remained the final. The Hoyas claimed victory 10-8.
Daniel Kennedy earned the win for the Hoyas, while Dan Pfau was credited with the loss. Quinn tallied the save.
The Hoyas and the Colonials will face off in the final game of the season series on Wednesday, May 4 at Shirley Povich Field. First pitch is set for 7 pm.
