Bethesda, MD--The Georgetown University baseball team defeated cross town rival George Washington 9-5 on Wednesday evening, May 4. The win gave the Hoyas the sweep of the season series, after claiming a 10-8 victory on May 3. The Hoyas improve to 24-25 while the Colonials fall to 30-15. Parker Brooks and Billy Quinn each tallied two runs and two hits while Andrew Cleary added two hits and three RBI.
The Hoyas started off scoring and never looked back. Andrew Cleary drove in Parker Brooks on a sacrifice fly to tally the first run and make the score 1-0. Georgetown added three more runs in the second, where Danny Gronski drove in Mark McLaughlin on an infield single. Brooks then singled to left to drive in Brandon Davis for the second run of the inning. Billy Quinn drove in the last run of the inning, getting Gronski across the plate.
Georgetown added two more runs in the fifth, where Quinn tripled to right center to bring Brooks across the plate for the 5-0 lead. Cleary doubled at the next at-bat, driving home Quinn to extend the Hoyas lead to 6-0. In the sixth, Georgetown brought across three runs, to make the score 9-0. Timmy Jones doubled to left center to score Gronski, Cleary doubled to left to score Jones, and Ryan Craft tallied a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Quinn.
The score looked to remain the final, 9-0, yet the Colonials went on a five run rally in the ninth, with Bill Simpson, Joe Michalski, Geoff Milsom, Brad Rosenblat, and Tom Shanley all tallying runs.
Eddie Pena (4-5) earned the win for the Hoyas, while Avi Rasowsky (2-2) was credited with the loss.
The Hoyas will next return to action on May 14 where they host BIG EAST opponent Rutgers at 7:30 pm on Shirley Povich field.
