Washington, DC - Georgetown University's football senior standout Michael Ononibaku (Amherst, MA) was selected to the 2005 CollegeSportsReport.com Preseason All-American Second Team. This honor marks his second preseason All-Division I-AA selection, as earlier this summer he was recognized by The Sports Network on their honorable mention team.
Ononibaku, a preseason favorite for the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year, took home Football Gazette's First Team All-American and All-Patriot League First Team honors last season. He is coming off a season where he led the league in tackles for a loss with 1.68 per game and tied for the lead in sacks with 10.5. A tri-captain for this upcoming season, Ononibaku has been honored with Georgetown's #35 Joe Eacobacci Memorial Jersey the last two seasons. Currently, he ranks fifth on Georgetown's career sack list with 20.5, just 11 behind Hoya leader Janne Kouri, and is 14th all-time in the Patriot League rankings.
The Hoyas will hold an intra-squad scrimmage this Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at the new Multi-Sport Field, as they inch closer to their season opener. Georgetown will begin regular season play on Saturday, September 3, at Patriot League rival Bucknell at 6 p.m. The Hoyas will play its inaugural game at the new Multi-Sport Field on Saturday, September 17, when they host Brown, in the school's first ever home meeting against an Ivy League foe.
