Field Hockey Goes Down Against Bucknell, 3-2

Sept. 17, 2005

Box Score

LEWISBURG, PA - Georgetown field hockey (1-5) loses to Bucknell (3-4) 3-2 today on the road. The Hoya offense put a lot of pressure on Bucknell but could not come out victorious.

The first half of the game saw a slow start from the Hoyas. The Hoyas were not as aggressive as they have proven to be earlier in the season and it showed when Bucknell scored a goal in the 17th minute of play. Kelly O'Brien found Alex Kyzmir who shot the ball past Georgetown goalkeeper Deirdre Crovo (Millersville, MD). Shortly before the end of the first half, Bucknell's Amanda Faust received a pass from Anne Lutz and scored the second goal for the Bison. Georgetown was down 2-0 going into halftime.

The Hoyas came back in the second half with the same fire they have had all season and started playing a more aggressive game. The second half saw 12 shots taken by the Hoyas, far more than the two they took in the first half. As the Hoyas controlled the game and possession more, sophomore Deirdre McShea (Strafford, PA) was able to break away and score an unassisted goal for the Hoyas 13 minutes into the period, cutting the Bison lead in half. The Bison quickly took the momentum away from Georgetown when Kelly O'Brien scored the third goal for Bucknell, extending their lead to 3-1. The Hoyas did not give up and just over five minutes later sophomore Lauren Sheets (Lutherville, MD) received the ball from fellow sophomore Lauren Gallagher (Garden City, NY) off a penalty corner from freshman Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, MD) and scored the second goal for the Hoyas. Even with this momentum the Hoyas were unable to score again and lost to Bucknell 3-2. Although the Hoya offense had a strong day and outshot BU 14-12, Bucknell goalkeeper Jordan Liz had a remarkable day and recorded seven saves against the Hoyas.

This is the fourth time the Hoyas have lost by a one goal deficit in 2005.

The Hoyas return to the action this Wednesday, September 21 at 4:00 p.m. in Towson, MD to take on the Towson Tigers.
