Field Hockey Loses Heartbreaker to Lafayette

EASTON, PA - Georgetown field hockey (2-6) lost a 2-1 heartbreaker to Lafayette (4-4) today. This is the fourth game of the season the Hoyas lose by one goal. Senior captain Caitlin Bump (Barrytown, NY) scored the lone goal for the Hoyas today.

The first half saw an aggressive Lafayette squad. The Leopards outshot the Hoyas in the first half 11-3. However, one of those three shots was taken by senior defender Caitlin Bump who scored an unassisted goal through the goalkeeper's legs during a scramble. This put the Georgetown up 1-0. Georgetown goalkeeper Abby Winer (Rising Sun, MD) held off seven attempts by the Leopards in the first half to secure GU's 1-0 lead into halftime.

Lafayette continued to apply pressure to the Georgetown defense in the second half as they outshot the Hoyas 8-2, 19-5 for the day. Fifteen minutes into the half Lafayette's Laura Fabian scored a goal on a ball flipped into the top left corner of the goal off an assist from Diane Shane to even up the game. At 59:45 Amanda Eggleston scored the game-winning goal for the Leopards off an assist from Maggie DeFilippo. LU goalkeeper Jill Lambert recorded four saves for the Leopards today, securing the Leopard 2-1 victory.

GU goalkeeper Winer posted seven saves for the Hoyas today.

The Hoyas return to action this Friday, September 30 to take on St. Francis (PA) on Kehoe Field at 3:00 p.m.
