Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University head coach Dave Urick announced a group of 10 student-athletes who will attend the University in the fall of 2006. The Hoyas return eight starters from a team that went 10-5 last season, advancing to the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. Georgetown is one of only two schools in the country to reach the NCAA Quarterfinals in each of the last four years and is one of only three schools to reach the NCAA Tournament in each of the last nine years.
"I am very excited about the quality of this year's class," Urick said. "We were able to address several needs with this group and I think they're going to give us some strength at every position."
The class of 10 includes two on attack, four midfielders, three on defense and one goalie. Rickey Mirabito (Chenango Forks, N.Y.) is a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and lacrosse. An attackman, he was a member of the silver medal-winning 2005 Empire State Games Central lacrosse team. Mirabito, who was twice named all-section in lacrosse, was the leading scorer in Section 4 in 2005 and the Class C Tournament MVP. He was named all-league in football as a defensive back and quarterback and was a member of the Southern Tier Athletic Conference All Academic Team.
Chris Schuville (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.), who plays attack, is a two-sport athlete in football and lacrosse. He was an All-Nassau County and Honorable Mention All America in 2005 for lacrosse, and earned All-Nassau County and All Long Island honors in football. Schuville was a finalist for receiver of the year in Long Island while leading his team to the Long Island Championship.
Andrew Brancaccio (Georgetown Prep, Md.), a midfielder, was a Washington Post All-Metro honorable mention selection in 2004 and is a three-time member of the Maryland Free State team. He plays basketball in addition to lacrosse. Brancaccio missed much of the 2005 season due to injury, but returned in time to score the winning goal in the IAC Championship game.
Eric Reinhardt (Upper Arlington, Ohio), a midfielder, earned honorable mention All-Ohio honors in 2004 and was a second team All-Ohio selection in 2005. In addition, Reinhardt was named Honorable Mention All Midwest in 2005.
Spencer Gantsoudes (Choate Rosemary Hall, Conn.) is a two-sport standout in soccer and lacrosse, where he plays midfield. In lacrosse, Spencer was named Second Team All-New England as a sophomore, was a member of the Connecticut Super Junior Team last summer and is a team captain this coming spring. In soccer Spencer was a two-time all-state selection, a two-time All-Western New England Selection and team captain.
Jeff Lambe (Episcopal, Va.), a midfielder, is a three-sport standout in football, track and lacrosse. An exceptional athlete, Lambe was named to the All-IAC first-team for football.
Chris Nixon (Duxbury, Mass.) is one of three players joining the Hoyas on the defensive side. A two-sport athlete in football and lacrosse, Nixon is the captain of both teams. He is a four-year starter on the two-time Division I State Championship lacrosse team, earning All-America, all-league and all-scholastic honors in 2005. In football, he was named Boston Globe 2A Player of the Year in football after gaining 1,700 yards rushing and scoring 24 touchdowns. The team went undefeated and won the Massachusetts Super Bowl.
Barney Ehrmann (Gilman, Md.)is a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and lacrosse. He was all conference in lacrosse in 2005, all-conference, all-city and all-metro for the No. 15-ranked football team in the country this fall and is a captain of the basketball team for this season as well.
The final member on defense is Eric Bicknese (Morristown, N.J./Delbarton),who earned honorable mention all-county honors in 2005. Bicknese helped Delbarton win the state title in 2005.
The Hoyas will welcome one goalie, Jack Davis (Glen Ridge, N.J.), who earned first-team all-state and conference honors in 2005 and was named the Non-Prep Player of the Year in 2003-04.
Georgetown opens the 2006 season on Saturday, February 25, hosting Maryland at the Multi-Sport Field on the Hilltop.
