Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III
On sloppy first half play...
"We were trying man, trying zone, trying to get different guys into the game. We just couldn't find a combination. The second half we played with more energy and that was the difference. Providence came out and played well."
On Brandon Bowman and Ashanti Cook's play...
"They both played well. They both picked up their energy level in the second half and everything just fell into place. "
On the second half...
"As a coach you try to figure things out tactically and come up with a strategy on what the Friars were doing and how we could counter. But we just needed to play harder and pick up our energy. Brandon and Ashanti did a couple things early in the second half on the defensive end and it just carried over."
On Ashanti's nine points during the second half 12-0 run...
"I thought he played poorly in the first half and I made it clear to him at halftime. He came out in the second half and got it going."
On Green's two point night...
"Jeff is very unselfish but he was getting shots blocked tonight. In key stretches of the second half and he did not become complacent because he wasn't scoring. He played on the defensive end and got big rebounds. Three or four of those rebounds was when we really needed the basketball."
On Roy's aggressiveness...
"I think we have seen that all year. He is getting better but he has a long way to go. He does feel more comfortable and he makes us better when he is in the post. "
On the quickness of Providence's backcourt...
"They are quick and poised. Donnie (McGrath) has been around and seen a lot in this three years. It is a tough backcourt. I thought we did a very good job and did a good job being cognizant of where he was on the floor, even though he (McGrath) had 17 points."
Georgetown Senior Brandon Bowman...
"Coach said we had to pick up the intensity. We turned the ball over way too much, so that was a point of emphasis. We just came out in the second half and turned it around."
"Coach has been on me about my rebounds. The last two games I've tried to step it up a couple notches. Today, balls falling my way, being aggressive on boards - pays off towards rebounds. Coach explains to the whole team how much rebounding wins games and I think, more and more, we're starting to take that more serious."
Senior Guard Ashanti Cook ...
"I tried to do some things to get the team going in the right direction."
Providence Head Coach Tim Welsh
On the youth of his squad...
"Our guys are really new to this world of BIG EAST basketball and we have to learn how to play in it. It is only one loss and we need to bounce back from it."
On the comparison of Georgetown versus other opponents this season...
"They have a second-year head coach and a lot of returning players. They can play with anyone and now they are playing with more confidence. They are more comfortable with each other and with what John wants to do. They are better defensively than I gave them credit for."
On the keys to the game...
"Georgetown doesn't usually make you turn the ball over and they forced us into 17 turnovers tonight and that is not a good number for us. They also don't usually out-rebound you and they our-rebounded us 47-26, so we lost in both categories tonight."
On the rebound differential (47-26)...
"GU had two guys with double-figure rebounds. We had to do a better job rebounding the ball on both ends. They did a good job attacking our zone. Georgetown did a good job on second chance rebounds. Bowman had 12 rebounds and he hurt us. We didn't do a good job finding him."
