Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University field hockey team welcomes BIG EAST Conference opponent No. 11 Louisville (STX/NFHCA) to Kehoe Field on Friday, October 20 at 3 p.m. and hosts non-league opponent Davidson on Sunday at noon. The Hoyas are 5-8 overall, with a 0-4 mark in conference play.
The Hoyas are in search of their first BIG EAST Conference win as this is the first year GU has competed as full members of the league. Freshman forward Willemijn Wijsman (Hilversum, The Netherlands/International School Hilversum) leads the team with 10 points from four goals and two assists. Wijsman leads the team in goals scored (4) with sophomore forward Katie Lachman (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Radnor) and freshman forward Chelsea Aiken (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy).
Lachman scored the game-winning goal in last weekend's 2-1 win over non-league opponent Lafayette. It was her second game-winner of the season as she also recorded the clincher against St. Francis on September 1. The Leopards were the first on the board, but freshman forward Kristen Volpe (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central) leveled the game at one goal apiece a mere 16 seconds following the Lafayette goal. Lachman would score the game-winner less than a minute and a half later.
Against BIG EAST Conference opponents, the Hoyas own a .273 shooting percentage, connecting on six of 22 shots.
The eleventh-ranked Louisville is coming off back-to-back wins over No. 15 Villanova (5-2) and Northeastern (3-1). The Cardinals take the top spot in the BIG EAST standings with a 10-6 overall record and a 3-1 mark in conference play. Louisville's Jessica Javelet is second in the league in points scored (42) trailing behind Villanova's Megan Foster (53). Of the teams' three common opponents, Louisville owns a 2-1 record while the Hoyas are 0-3 against the trio (Syracuse, Connecticut and Providence). This will be the first meeting between Louisville and Georgetown.
Davidson carries a record of 6-10, 2-3 in the Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference. The Wildcats are led by Kayli Maxwell who leads the team in points (28), goals (11) and assists (6). The last meeting between the two schools saw a 3-2 Wildcat victory on October 8, 2005.
