Goals Unlimited Alumni Day
Multi-Sport Field and McDonough Arena, Georgetown University
The men's soccer program has gone through some big changes in recent months, with Brian Wiese taking over the head coaching duties for the Hoyas. This year's Goals Unlimited alumni day gave Brian a chance to meet the former players, and see how well their legs have aged. The alumni put up a good fight against the current team on the Multi-Sport Field, using a deep bench to take it down to the wire, but they eventually fell to their younger counterparts 5-4. Goals Unlimited held a fajita bar tailgate after the game, and the alums joined Brian and his staff at the Tombs to relive the group's tough loss. The presence of their men's lacrosse counterparts across the bar only added to the good times. Former head coach Keith Tabatznik was also in attendance for the events, though he did not suit up for the game!

With the men's lacrosse team sneaking up on the postseason, the Crease Club could not have picked a better time to hold its alumni day. The win over the Minutemen jumpstarted the celebration, which made its way to the newly renovated Alumni House for a Crease Club reception just before the torrential downpour began. The festivities did not end there, however, as the alums made the block-and-a-half sprint through the rain to extend the day in the warm confines of the Tombs, where they were joined by the attendees of the men's soccer alumni day.

Hoya Netters Club Summer Outings
Piping Rock Club, Locust Valley, N.Y.; Oak Hills Tennis Center, Norwalk, Conn.
Neil (C'90) and Ellen (C'89) McGinness hosted two summer tennis outings for Hoya Tennis Alumni over the weekend of August 12 and 13. The Hoya Tennis faithful took to the courts in fine fashion Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and had terrific fun. The weekend was punctuated with extremely unusual weather events as a tornado inexplicably visited northern Long Island for the first time in 40 years Friday, and record high temperatures of 100 degrees stalked Norwalk, CT. As would be expected, not a moment of doubt surfaced as play ensued, as the Hoyas survival skills were sure enough up to the challenges posed by the forces of nature. The Hoyas PLAYED ON!
Late Friday afternoon August 12 the Hoya Tennis alumni walked onto an expansive green oasis at the Piping Rock Club in Locust Valley, NY to begin their afternoon tennis workout. The green was not, however, a typical battery of painted green asphalt hard courts. Instead, field long rows of lush, green manicured grass, lined for tennis, awaited the Hoya ensemble.
Hoyas in attendance included host Neil McGinness (C'90), Lloyd (C'84) and Meghan(N'87) Williams, Rob Kelly (C'90) and his wife Liz, Ronnie Goodall (C'84) and his wife Carmela, their daughter Kai, and Ronnie's guests Chris Harrison and Alex Vining. Neil and Rob were crowned the 2005 Alumni Grass Court Doubles Champions as they downed Ronnie and Head Tennis Coach Rich Bausch 4-6,7-5,7-6(1) in a thrilling battle of subtle volley winners and dazzling drop shot wizardry.
Not long after the alums bade fond farewell to the Piping Rock grass and to one another, and, just as the champs were stabilizing themselves with huge cheeseburgers at the nearby Buckram Stables, a tornado thoroughly ravaged the Locust Valley area, knocking out power and leveling trees throughout the community. The first tornado to hit Long Island in forty years -- yet the Hoyas thrived and survived!
Saturday's afternoon outing in Norwalk, CT was cast in dire specter of severely hot temperatures. With "game time" scheduled at 1:00pm, and as temperatures inched toward the 100 degree mark, the Hoya contingent started slowly with a wonderful buffet lunch at Neil and Ellen's home. Then, fueled by their nourished resolve and innate reserves of Hoya courage, the tennis alums took to the clay courts at the Oak Hills Tennis Center a little after 2:00pm. Joining Neil and Rich Bausch on the courts were Prof. John Quinn(C'86), Bob Wice(C'92), Dick Parker (C67), Mario Espinoza(B'78) and Liddy Bartell(B'05). Despite the white hot heat, and hazy, humid thickness, the Hoyas played through singles and doubles combinations for the better part of an hour and forty-five minutes with no lasting side-effects! Hats off to Neil, John, Bob, Dick, Mario and Liddy for continuing to be in such fine shape to not only play tennis, but play so well in sweltering conditions!
Many thanks to Neil for his wonderful proposal to host a summer outing and to Neil and Ellen for making such a wonderful opportunity a reality for the Hoya Tennis team alums and Coach! And prepare your calendars now for summer 2006 as the Hoya Netter's Club will definitely be hosting another series of summer Hoya Tennis Alumni outings!
