Washington, D.C. - Junior catcher Cathy Richter (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) turned in a stellar performance at the 2006 Capital Classic held in Dover, Del. as she went 3-for-6 on the day, scoring a run and recording two RBI. The Hoyas lost to Mount St. Mary's, 9-2, and Coppin State, 11-5.
Against Mount St. Mary's the Hoyas recorded three hits. Richter went 1-for-2 with a triple and a walk to record an RBI and score one run. Sophomore Katharine Lang (Princeton Jct., N.J./The Lawrenceville School) notched a hit and scored one run. Freshman designated player Katie Zoch (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) went 1-for-3 with a base hit and recorded one RBI.
Lang proved to be an offensive asset against Coppin State when she went 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring two runs for the Hoyas. Richter went 2-for-4 at the plate with a single and a triple, recording one RBI. Zoch went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double.
"I think we played really well," said Assistant Coach Kim Staehle. "We gave up some defensive errors and few base hits, but offensively, we're coming out with energy. We're scoring runs and we are making progress."
The Hoyas are seeded fifth in the weekend tournament and will play at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow against the fourth seed as yet to be determined.
