The weather could not have been better. The scores? Well, that's a different story.
The Diamond Club hosted its annual golf outing on Saturday, with 40 alums, staff and family members making the trip out to Reston National Golf Club in Reston, Va. to enjoy the warm weather and good company.
The foursome of Pat (B'03) and Al Salvitti and Matt (B'03) and Carmine Carullo finished with a 7-under 64 on the day to take the title for the second year in a row. Bob Fredericks (F'80), Ben Fluhart (F'80), Craig Leopold and Dave Fitzgerald came in second at 6-under. The group of Randy Erwin (B'01, S'06), Brian Cassese (B'01), Jay Catalano (C'01) and Jim Vankoski (C'02) (with the support of Matt Arizin in his own private cart) finished at an impressive 5-under. The rest of the groups, though they had a blast, didn't put up numbers worth bragging about. Bob Fredericks just beat out Sam Muir (father of Kelly, B'09) for the closest-to-the pin honor, and Brian Cassese took home the long drive trophy.
With some sunburned necks and some bruised egos, the group made their way over to Shirley Povich Field to join the team for a Rockland's-catered dinner before the Hoyas took on Rutgers. The chicken, pork, beans and coleslaw were a hit, but when Pam Bernoskie (mother of Scooter, C'06) brought out her famous Oreo pudding, you'd have thought she was pulling a bowl of $100 bills out of that cooler. The team, the alums, the families and the staff had a great time celebrating the program and alumni day, and hopefully the turnout and the weather will be just as good next year.
A special thank you to the coaching staff, Derek Pines (B'99) and Kevin DeSanto (B'98) for all their help with this event.
