Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown field hockey teams travels to Loretto, Pa. today for a game against St. Francis (0-1). Both teams will be searching for the first win of the season. The game is slated for today, September 1, at 6 p.m.
In their last game, the Hoyas (0-1)came off to a slow start against Saint Joseph's but finished on a strong note. The first half saw three goals from the Hawks but the Hoya defense was able to hold off the SJU attack in the second half. The Hoya offense pressed hard in the second half and junior tri-captain Deirdre McShea (Strafford, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) took one shot-on-goal. The young squad would lose the game, 3-0.
The Red Flash opened the season on August 29 when they hosted Bucknell. Although St. Francis scored first, it was not long before the Bison went on a scoring binge, winning the game, 10-2.
Last season's matchup saw a 3-1 victory for the Blue and Gray.
After today's matchup, the Hoyas will gear up for a three-game home stint where the team will host Lehigh, Robert Morris and Towson - playing three games in five days.
