Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown field hockey team defeated Robert Morris today, 2-1, on Kehoe field to improve to 2-2 on the year and to split a pair of weekend games. The Colonials dropped to 1-3. Freshman midfielder Chelsea Aiken (Hudson, Ohio/Western Reserve Academy) scored the game-winning goal, the first goal of her young Georgetown career.
Aiken scored the game-winner at the 4:46 mark off a penalty corner set up by senior defender Megan Cellucci (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and freshman midfielder Willemijn Wijsman (Hilversum, The Netherlands/International School Hilversum). The penalty corner was one of 18 total opportunities the Hoyas were able to create. They outshot the Colonials, 29-7 in the game.
Just four seconds shy of halftime, Robert Morris forward Sarah Schrott connected on a shot to level the game at one going into halftime.
With the game scoreless, Georgetown received a penalty stoke opportunity off a Colonial foul. Junior defender Lauren Sheets (Lutherville, Md./Garrison Forest) took the penalty stroke, giving the Hoyas the 1-0 lead.
Sophomore goalkepper Deirdre Crovo (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) started her first game today and earned her first win of the season recording two saves on the day while allowing one goal.
The Hoyas return to action on Wednesday, September 13 when they host Towson in the last of a three-game home stint. The game is slated for 3 p.m. on Kehoe Field.
