Box Score
Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown field hockey team came back from a 3-1 deficit at halftime to defeat Bucknell, 4-3, today on Kehoe Field. Three goals in the second half would ensure the win for the Hoyas as they improve to 3-5 on the year. The Bison fall to 4-4.
At the 63:30 mark and the game tied at three, freshman forward Lindsay Moramarco (Andover, Mass./Phillips Academy) capitalized on a free-ball in the circle to score the game-winner, her first career goal as a Hoya.
Down 3-2, freshman forward Willemijn Wijsman (Hilversum, The Netherlands/International School Hilversum) scored the equalizer after Bucknell goalkeeper Diana Bartley recorded a save and the Bison failed to clear the ball. It was Wijsman's third goal of the season.
Just minutes into the second half, sophomore midfielder Maggie Farrand (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) scored her second goal of the season, unassisted to start the Hoya rally.
The first half saw a quick goal off the stick of freshman midfielder Alice Murnen (Princeton, N.J./Stuart Country Day). It was Murnen's first goal of her young GU career and she would prove to be an aggressive force throughout the game as she created many opportunities for the Hoyas and produced many Bison turnovers. The Bison, though, would go on to score three goals in the half to take the 3-1 edge going into halftime.
Georgetown out-shot Bucknell for the game, 10-7, and the GU defense held the Bison to zero shots in the second half. The defense held strong with key performances from freshman Jen Sachs (North Andover, Mass./North Andover), sophomore Katie Devaney (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) and juniors Lauren Sheets (Lutherville, Md./Garrison Forest) and Kristin Twomey (Larchmont, N.Y./School of the Holy Child).
Sophomore goalkeeper Deirdre Crovo (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) posted three saves and allowed three goals. With the win, Crovo evens her season record at 2-2.
The Hoyas return to action on Tuesday, September 26 when they travel to Baltimore, Md. for a matchup against UMBC. The game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
