Georgetown Women's Basketball Hosts Villanova on Saturday Afternoon

Feb. 2, 2007

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's bask ketball team (11-11, 1-8 BE) will look to snap a season-long six game slide on Saturday afternoon against a Villanova Wildcat team (7-14, 1-7) that is also in the midst of a six-game losing streak. Tip-off at McDonough Arena on Saturday, February 3 is slated for 3 p.m. Chuck Timanus will be calling the action as the game can be heard and seen on HoyaVision at www.guhoyas.com.

With seven regular-season games remaining, the Hoyas will need to earn a couple of victories in order to qualify for one of the 12 BIG EAST Tournament spots. GU still has left to play four of the six teams that are currently ranked eighth or lower in the league standings (SHU, PC, SU, VU).

Fast Breaks ... Georgetown took a season-high 23 three-point attempts vs. West Virginia, the most since January, 2005.

-- Junior forward Kieraah Marlow (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) became the 20th Hoya to reach the 1,000-point plateau earlier this season at St. John's. The Coatesville, Pa native ranks 7th in the league with 16.4 points per game and has has moved up 16 spots on the school's all-time scoring list. Marlow has ten 20-point games this year and has posted 20-plus points in four of the last six outings. Marlow's 18 made free throws in the Appalachian State win is the single-game high by a BIG EAST player this season. Marlow ranks third among active BIG EAST players with 23 career double-doubles. Marlow has led the team in scoring 12 times this season. Marlow went for 22 points last year at Villanova.

-- Freshman point guard Shanice Fuller (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River), who has started in all 22 games, dished out 10 assists in the win over Florida Atlantic, the most since Kristin Heidloff's 10 helpers last season (12/22/05) in a victory over American. Fuller also had seven steals in the win at American, tying for the single-game high by a BIG EAST player this season. Fuller, who went to the same high school as former Hoya Alonzo Mourning, is averaging 7.0 points and 4.0 assists in the last nine games, all above her season averages.

-- Sophomore Katrina Wheeler, a McDonald's All-American out of T. Roosevelt H.S. in Washington, D.C., leads the team and ranks 9th in the BIG EAST with 8.0 rebounds. She ranks second on the squad with 8.7 points per game. Wheeler, who has 10 career double-doubles, is averaging 9.3 points, 9.2 boards and 2.0 blocks over the last 11 games including two double-doubles. Wheeler has already hauled down double-figure rebounds seven times this season after recording seven doubles all of last season.

Cox is averaging 7.0 points and has knocked down a team-high twelve three-pointers during the stretch. She has hit a three-pointer in ten of the last 12 games.
