Green, Hibbert Named 1st-Team as Four Hoya Players Earn All-BIG EAST Honors

March 5, 2007

Washington, D.C. - Led by unanimous first-team selections Jeff Green (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) and Roy Hibbert (Adelphi, Md./Georgetown Prep), four Georgetown University men's basketball players earned All-BIG EAST Honors, it was announced today by the league office.

Green and Hibbert helped lead No. 9 Georgetown to a 59-46 win over Connecticut on Saturday in the regular season finale at Verizon Center. The win gave the Hoyas a 13-3 league mark as the team clinched its first BIG EAST Regular Season title since 1995-96, and the program's eighth overall.

The Hoyas, who are 23-6 overall and have won 12 of their last 13 games, will enter the BIG EAST Tournament as the conference's No. 1 seed. It is the first time since 1988-89 that Georgetown earned the conference's top seed and the fourth time overall.

Green and Hibbert were two of five players who were unanimous selections to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Georgetown junior guard Jonathan Wallace (Harvest, Ala./Sparkman) was an All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention selection and freshman forward DaJuan Summers (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) was named to the league's All-Rookie Team.

Green, who earned his third All-BIG EAST honor after being named second team in 2006 and earning Co-Rookie of the Year honors in 2005, led Georgetown in scoring with 13.6 points per game, led the team in assists with 3.5 per game and was second on the team in rebounding, grabbing 5.9 rebounds per game. The 6-9 junior ranks 12th in the BIG EAST Conference in field goal percentage, shooting 51.6 percent from the floor, and is second on the team in three-point field goals (34). Earlier this year, Green became the 37th player in Georgetown history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for his career. He enters the BIG EAST Tournament 23rd all-time on the Hilltop with 1,204 points.

Hibbert, who was a two-time BIG EAST Player of the Week selection this year, finished second on the team in scoring (12.7 ppg) and led the squad in rebounding (6.4 rpg), blocked shots (2.4 bpg) and field goal percentage (68.8%, 139-of-202). The 7-2 junior scored 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the team's win over Connecticut, his sixth double-double this season and the 15th of his career. In conference games, Hibbert set a new BIG EAST record by connecting on 71.2 percent of his shots from the field (79-of-111), eclipsing the mark of 67.6% set by Villanova's Michael Bradley in 2000-01.

Wallace, meanwhile, earned his first All-BIG EAST honor after finishing third on the team in scoring (11.3 ppg), third on the team in assists (2.9 apg) and first in free throw percentage (91.2%, 62-of-68). The 6-1 junior guard has hit a team-best 51 three-point field goals and ranks second in the BIG EAST Conference in three-point field goal percentage, shooting 46.8 percent from outside the arc (51-of-109). Wallace ranks fifth all-time at Georgetown with 147 three-point field goals made.

A 6-8 forward, Summers is fifth on the team in scoring with 8.7 points per game and fourth in rebounding, grabbing 3.4 boards per game. He has started 26 of 29 games this season, connecting on 42.9 percent of his field goals (79-of-184) and 77.4 percent of his free throws (65-of-84). Summers has scored in double figures 14 times this season and recorded his first double-double with a 17-points, 11-rebound effort in a win at Seton Hall.

Green and Hibbert being named to the All-BIG EAST first team gives Georgetown 19 all-time selections to that squad, while Summers is the 20th Hoya to earn All-Rookie Honors. Since the BIG EAST was formed in 1979-80, Georgetown players have earned 67 all-conference honors.

The Hoyas return to play on Thursday, March 8 in the Quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden. Georgetown plays the winner of Wednesday's first round game between eighth-seeded DePaul and ninth-seeded Villanova.
