Washington, D.C. - The No. 11 Georgetown University women's lacrosse team (7-6) plays its final two home games of the season vs. George Washington (7-6) on Friday, April 20 at 3:45 p.m. and the Connecticut Huskies (7-5, 1-3 BE) on Sunday, April 22 at noon. The Hoyas, who completed a stretch of seven of eight road games, return to the Multi-Sport Field looking to gain some momentum prior to the BIG EAST Championship which will be played next weekend in the Carrier Dome at Syracuse University.
Georgetown dropped its second straight game when GU fell at No. 11 Notre Dame last Saturday, 13-8. It marked the first BIG EAST regular-season loss for the Hoyas since the league's inception in 2001, a stretch of 37 league games.
Georgetown has never faced GW and the Hoyas are 6-0 all-time vs. UConn.
Schedule Strength ... The Hoyas have a strength of schedule ranked No. 2 by www.laxpower.com. All six of the Hoyas losses have come against ranked teams with four losses coming at the hands of No. 2 Duke (12-11), at No. 2 North Carolina (8-6), No. 3 Maryland (14-10) and No. 5 Virginia (14-7). The Hoyas held three-goal leads vs. UNC and Duke.
Scouting the Colonials ... George Washington comes into Friday's game with a 7-5 overall record, 3-1 in A-10 action. The Colonials lone loss in league play came at No. 20 Richmond, 10-7 on April 1. Junior defender Katelyn Honeyford ranks 11th in the nation with 2.2 caused turnovers per game. Junir midfielder Kristin Karsch leads the team with 32 goals, 12 assists and 44 points. GW has a 2-10 all-time record against ranked teams. Georgetown and GW share Hopkins, George Mason and William & Mary as common opponents. The Hoyas are 3-0 vs. those team while the Colonials are 1-2.
Series with GW ... This is the first-ever meeting between GW and the Hoyas.
Winning After a Loss ...Before this season, the Hoyas had never lost consecutive games under third year head coach Ricky Fried (7-0). This season, Georgetown has dropped back-to-back games twice, at No. 2 North Carolina and vs. No. 3 Maryland and then at No. 5 Virginia and at No. 11 Notre Dame. GU is 2-2 in games following a loss this season.
BIG EAST Championship Field Set ...The 2007 BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Championship field has been set, with Georgetown, Notre Dame, Rutgers and Syracuse qualifying for the inaugural event. Heading into the final weekend of regular season conference play, none of the four seeds has been locked up. On April 29 at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y., the title game of the Championship will be televised live on College Sports Television: CSTV at 2:30 p.m.
BIG EAST Championship Tie-Breaking Policies ... If Notre Dame, Syracuse and Georgetown were to all finish conference play with one loss the tie-breakers for seeding would depend on ...
1) Regular season head-to-head results. If three or more teams are tied, they are viewed as a "miniconference" when comparing head-to-head results. The team or teams with the best combined record versus the other teams in the mini-conference gain the advantage.
2) Each team's record versus the team occupying the highest position in the standings, continuing down through the standings until one team gains an advantage.
3) Each team's Conference seasonal goal differential (maximum of seven goals per game).
4) Each team's Conference seasonal goals for (maximum of seven goals per game).
5) Each team's Conference seasonal goals against (maximum of seven goals per game).
Heading into the weekend, Syracuse leads the goal differential category (+11), Notre Dame has a goal differential of +10 and Georgetown has a goal differential of +9.
Flair for the Dramatic ... Red-shirt senior Brittany Baschuk netted her third career game-winning overtime goal vs. Syracuse when the Hoyas topped the Orange, 9-8 earlier this season. Baschuk had overtime game-winners in consecutive games last season in wins over North Carolina and at Maryland.
Baschuk ranks second on the team with 23 goals, eight assists and 31 points. She surpassed her career totals of 13 goals, 5 assists and 18 points coming into this season in just her sixth game this year.
Quick Hits ... Senior Schuyler Sutton (Annapolis, Md./Severn School) has recorded a point in 18 of the last 19 games. Sutton ranks third on the team with 20 goals this year after scoring 24 goals all of last season.
-- Senior Maggie Koch (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside) averaged 10.0 saves in the last three games. Koch now has made eight or more saves in nine different games and notched double-figure saves five times.
-- Georgetown had a season-high eight players score a goal at Loyola and the Hoyas held the Greyhounds scoreless in the second half.
-- Sophomore midfielder Megan Bloomer (Paoli, Pa./Conestoga) earned her first collegiate start at George Mason and has started in each of the last eight games. Bloomer has two goals, two assists and nine ground balls in the last three games. Bloomer now has five points on the year and ranks fourth on the team with 17 ground balls.
-- Senior Coco Stankwick (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) posted six points last week with four goals and two assists and now has multi-points in every game this season. The Baltimore native has posted at least five points in eight different games this year. She leads the team with 41 goals, 19 assists, 60 points and 53 draw controls. Stanwick ranks third in the country with 4.1 draw controls per game, ranks tenth in the nation with 3.1 goals per game and ranks 11th in the nation with 4.6 points per game. She has been named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week two times.
-- Senior defender Laura Cipro (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) ranks second on the team with 20 ground balls and ranks third on the team with 11 caused turnovers.
-- The Hoyas have only trailed at halftime three times this season, 9-4 vs. No. 3 Maryland, 9-3 at Virginia and 6-4 at Notre Dame. Georgetown lost all three of those games.
-- The senior class trio of Coco Stanwick, Brittany Baschuk (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge) and Schuyler Sutton have combined for 214 shots and 84 goals. That makes up 55 percent of the team's shots and 62 percent of the team's goals have come from the three senior attackers.
-- Freshman Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) notched her first career hat trick last Saturday at Notre Dame. Kaestner, who had scored four goals prior to the game with the Irish netted all three goals in the game's first three minutes.
