Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University softball team lost both games of a doubleheader today against Fairfield Univerity at Alumni Softball Field in Fairfield, Conn. The Stags won the first game, 3-2, and the second game, 5-0. The two losses drop the Hoyas to 10-37 on the season.
Georgetown jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when freshman Jadig Garcia (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) hit a sacrifice bunt to put freshman Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) in scoring position. Freshman Samantha Peters knocked a RBI double to left field to score Cipriano.
The Blue and Gray loaded the bases in the second inning on an errant Fairfield play, a single off the bat of freshman Sarah Kamenski (Mountain View, Calif./St. Francis) and a free pass to junior Katharine Lang (Princeton Jct., N.J./The Larenceville School). A Cipriano single brought home freshman Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) for the 2-0 Hoya lead.
The Stags fought back and cut the lead in half when Breanne Morschauser homered in the fourth inning.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Fairfield scored the equalizer when Kristie Trifiolis doubled to bring home Jessica Stand. Fairfield's Erin Frank hit a RBI single through the left side to bring home the winning run.
Connell pitched a complete game and allowed three runs on eight hits.
In the second game, Fairfield's Jan Gilbert pitched a four-hit shutout for the 5-0 win.
Kamenski pitched six innings in the second game and allowed five runs on four hits.
The Hoyas return to action on Tuesday, April 24 when they celebrate Senior Day at Guy Mason Field. Georgetown hosts Coppin State with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
