Syracuse, N.Y. - Syracuse sophomore goaltender Amber Pardee-Hill made 13 saves while Katie Rowan and Halley Quillinan each recorded hat tricks as the No. 2 seed Orange topped top-seeded Georgetown in the first-ever BIG EAST Tournament Championship Game at the Carrier Dome. Pardee-Hill earned the tournament's Most Outstanding Player Award.
Senior Coco Stanwick and sophomore Bunny O'Reilly posted two goals apiece for the Hoyas while sophomore Jordan Trautman had a goal, an assist, a ground ball and four draw controsls.
Georgetown (10-7) had its three-game win streak stopped and had a 10-game win streak over the Orange halted.
Syracuse (12-4) entered the contest winners of five straight and nine of its last 10 and boasted the nation's highest scoring offense (15.9 gpg).
"Syracuse executed their game plan very well," said Georgetown head coach Ricky Fried. "We looked a bit tentative early and their last two goals before halftime hurt. If we can go into the break down just 6-3 and not playing particularly well, I think that's a boost in itself. (SU led 8-3 at intermission) Syracuse is playing with a lot of confidence."
The Hoyas committed 18 turnovers in the game, 10 in the first half, despite holding a 17-4 advantage on draw controls.
Sophomore Katie Rowanbegan the scoring with an unassisted goal with 27:24 in the first half following an unforced GU turnover.
GU won the ensuing draw and Trautman free position at 25:42 tied the game at 1-1 as she tallied just her third goals of the year.
Orange senior midfielder Ashley Pike dodged a defender at 23:30 unassisted beating Koch five hole.
Brittany Baschuk found some space near the front of the net and took an assist from Trautman at 23:10 knotting the game at 2-2.
Georgetown won the game's first five draw controls through the first 10 minutes of play.
After a GU foul, Pike tallied her second goal of the game dodging a defender and scoring from a tough angle to put the Orange ahead 3-2 at 19:56.
Georgetown committed five turnovers over the game's first 15 minutes.
Quillinan scored from Rowan at 16:11 after the sixth Hoya turnover.
Georgetown was awarded a free position at 15:15. Katie Burton's free position shot was saved but the rebound caromed to Stanwick who tossed in her 59th goal of the year.
Christina Dove netted an unassisted goal at 13:21 for a 5-3 Orange lead.
Following a long Georgetown offensive possession that came up empty, Halley Quillinan scored her second goal of the game with Jill DePetris picking up an assist at 5:32 for a 6-3 Orange advantage.
Syracuse caused a turnover and Kristin Brady converted on the other end, her first goal of the game and 23rd of the season for a 7-3 Orange lead with less than a minute to go in the first period.
Rowan made it 8-3 Syracuse with just five seconds to go in the first half on a free position goal and the Hoyas were faced with their second biggest halftime deficit of the season.
Quillinan extended the Orange advantage to 9-3 with 26:00 to go in the game following failed Hoya clear. Quillinan picked up a loose ball 20 yards out and was able to get in close during the unsettled sequence
After GU won the draw, O'Reilly dodged a defender and netted her 22nd goal of the year at the 25:29 mark to get the Hoyas within 9-4.
Brady made it 10-4 Syracuse with 12:41 remaining on an unassisted goal. Following a Georgetown yellow card, the Orange worked the ball around and Brady capped the possession with her 24th marker of the year.
DePetris picked up a rebound after a free position shot and found the back of the net at 9:20 left for an 11-4 Syracuse bulge.
Hoya freshman Ashby Kaestner was awarded a free position goal at 4:24 and passed to Stanwick who was just outside the eight-meter as Stanwick posted her 60th goal of the season to get Georgetown to within 11-5.
The Hoyas continued the pressure with junior Patty Piotrowicz dodging a defender and ripping a low shot past the Syracuse goalie with just 3:40 remaining.
O'Reilly scored with sophomore Megan Bloomer picking up an assist at 2:26 to close the Hoya deficit to 11-7.
But the Orange won the next draw and was able to run out the clock and pick up one last goal at 23 ticks left.
"We didn't want to give up top side cuts but they (SU) were able to get a couple of those," said Georgetown goalie Maggie Koch.
The Hoyas will play their final regular-season game of the season on Sunday, May 6 when GU travels to Princeton, N.J. to take on the No. 14 Princeton Tigers. The first draw is set for 1 p.m.
