Princeton, N.J. - The No. 8 Georgetown women's lacrosse dropped a heartbreaking 12-11 loss at No.11 Princeton on Sunday afternoon. The Hoyas battled back from a 7-4 halftime deficit and took a 9-8 lead with 15 minutes to go but the Tigers tied the game at 10-10 with 7:29 left before Kristin Schwab scored a free position goal with 6:54 remaining.
Princeton freshman goalkeeper Kaitlyn Perrelle made a career-high 10 saves while Kathleen Miller and Katie Lewis-Laminica each netted four goals.
Georgetown received a hat trick from senior Coco Stanwick with Schuyler Sutton, Brittany Baschuk and Jordan Trautman all tallying two goals. Senior Laura Cipro collected two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Junior midfielder Patty Piotrowicz finished with a goal, an assist, two ground balls and two draws.
Ten of the 13 games in the all-time series between the schools have been have been decided by two goals or less.
Georgetown was 3-6 on free position attempts with Perrelle making three of her 10 saves on eight-meter shots.
Princeton took a 7-4 lead at halftime.
Sophomore Kristin Schwab scored at 28:54 for a 1-0 Princeton lead on a free position tally.
Sophomore Holly McGarvie assisted on senior Alex Gangler's goal at 28:20 for a 2-0 Tiger bulge.
Trautman put the Hoyas on the board on a free position marker at 26:30 for her fourth goal of the season.
One minute later, Stanwick had a shot saved by Perrelle but the Princeton netminder made an unforced error in her attempt to clear and Stanwick scooped the loose ball easily deposited the ball into an empty net, tying the game at 2-2 five-plus minutes in.
Junior midfielder Katie Lewis-Lamonica gave Princeton a 3-2 lead with an unassisted goal at 25:07.
Kathleen Miller netted a free position goal at 21:01 forcing the Hoyas to call a timeout for 4-2 Tiger advantage.
Georgetown Senior Brittany Baschuk was on the doorstep and scored her 30th goal of the season with freshman Ashby Kaestner earning an assist after junior Zan Morley caused a Princeton turnover at 18:30.
Ashley Amo scored an unassisted goal at 15:07 as the Tigers took their second two-goal lead of the afternoon.
Miller then took a 6-3 lead with Miller scoring from a tough angle at 8:45 following an almost four minute Tiger possession.
Perrelle made her second save on a Georgetown free position attempt as Princeton immediately scored on the other end with Lewis-Lamonica netting her second goal of the afternoon.
Stanwick tallied her second goal of the game at 4:20 with junior Patty Piotrowicz handing out an assist which snapped a stretch of three straight Princeton goals. Coming out of a re-start deep in Tiger territory Piotrowicz found Stanwick who was able to move without the ball to find a seam near the front of the net.
Perrelle made six first half saves for Princeton.
Georgetown won six of seven draw controls in the first 15 minutes of the second half and battled back from a 7-4 halftime deficit and took a 9-8 lead with 15:03 left.
Trautman scored the opening goal of the second half with Trautman tallying her second free position goal of the game beating Perrelle in the upper right corner.
Miller recorded a hat trick at 24:48 making a nice individual move for an 8-5 Tiger lead breaking 12 minute Princeton scoring drought.
Hoya junior Bunny O'Reilly answered for the Hoyas right away snaking between two defenders and ripping a left handed shot as GU closed to within 8-6.
Baschuk got Georgetown within a goal at 8-7 at the 17:09 mark. Baschuk created some space with a dodge and bounced a ball past Perrelle.
Piotrowicz tied the game at 8-8 with just 16:05 to go in regulation. Piotrowicz worked and slid by three Princeton defenders and scored her tenth goal of the season.
Sutton gave the Hoyas their first lead of the game, 9-8 at the 15:03 mark on a free position shot.
Lewis-Lamonica knotted the game at 9-9 with an unassisted goal with 13:51 to go.
Lewis-Lamonica put the Tigers up yet again, 10-9 with another terrific individual effort at 8:40.
Stanwick tallied her third goal at 7:29 after sophomore midfielder Megan Bloomer picked up a loose ball on a failed Princeton clear. Bloomer got the ball ahead to Piotrowicz tossed a neatly place pass to Stanwick who put home the one-on-one shot.
Schwab scored on a free position at 6:54 as Princeton answered for an 11-10 Tiger lead.
Princeton scored the game's final goal with 57 seconds to go as Miller netted her fourth of the game with an assist going to Alex Gangler
Georgetown freshman defender Jackie Proch won the ensuing draw control and the Hoyas were able to clear the ball out of their defensive end. A loose ball trickled over the Princeton end line with GU retaining possession. From behind the net, Baschuk found Sutton with 19.7 ticks left and Sutton lined shot from her hip into the net to get the Hoyas within 12-11.
Georgetown just wasn't able to control the game's final draw.
