Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad released its 2009 schedule Monday afternoon. The team will open the season playing eight teams that finished 2008 ranked in its first nine games. After a solid conference schedule, GU will play host to the 2008 Women's Lacrosse BIG EAST Championship Apr. 24-26 at Multi-Sport Field.
Georgetown will start off 2009 with a game against cross-town rival, George Washington University, on Feb. 21. The following eight games will all be against squads that finished last season ranked among the top 20 by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association. The Hoyas will travel to Baltimore, Md., to face Johns Hopkins before hosting four straight home games including once against Northwestern, the 2008 NCAA Div. I Champions, and another versus Duke who finished the season ranked third.
This home stand will be followed by a four-game road trip with visits to the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Notre Dame in the BIG EAST opener. Getting into BIG EAST play, the Hoyas will host Syracuse, Connecticut and Cincinnati for Senior Day on Apr. 18.
The BIG EAST Tournament will feature the top four teams in the conference Apr. 24-26.
Georgetown closed out its fall season this past weekend hosting a six-team tournament on Saturday and an alumni game on Sunday.
