WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University softball team raised $1,755.00 for Lupus research, culminating with the Alliance for Lupus Research Walk with Us To Cure Lupus walkathon on Sunday, November 2.
Members of the Hoyas softball team assisted with set-up and registration, while raising donations for the organization.
"The walk to cure lupus was an important event and we are proud of our players because they constantly show that volunteering their time to get involved in the community is very important to them," Georgetown assistant coach Lauren May said. "We encourage our players to engage in community service activities throughout the year and many of them take on issues and join organizations on their own. The ALR walk was a great opportunity for the team to come together and work towards a common goal."
The Alliance for Lupus Research was founded in 1999 through the vision and commitment of Robert Wood Johnson IV and the support of the Arthritis Foundation. Since its inception ALR has committed more than $50 million to lupus research.
Georgetown softball has shown a dedication to public service, also working to raise funds and provide assistance to the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life among others charitable causes.
